Becoming reconnected again was like taking a breath of fresh air after being trapped underground for weeks. Catty had to take the Force in stride, keeping herself from being wide open as thoughts assaulted her -- and also to keep her own thoughts from projecting out. Nobody needed to know about the man she killed during the riots.
And the moment the Force came back to her, she realized she could feel Kyp again, and she seethed.
There was a certain peace in not being attached to anyone, but there had also been a hole inside of her. He left. She didn't want him to know any of that, didn't want him to know about the man she shot. Her fingertips brushed over the bruising on her face.
He could feel her anger even before he reached the apartment, and that confused him. He'd left for her own good, to keep her safe - surely she understood that?
"Catty!" His relief at seeing her was abruptly cut short when he saw the bruising on her face. Enough of his anger had been excised on the Sith during the riots that his primary emotion was concern, blatantly stamped across his face. "What - what happened?"
She honestly didn't want to see that look on his face. It made her not want to be angry, made her want to give up being stubborn and let her walls down. But what he had done wasn't right, and that was more important than her stupidity.
"I was punched in the face a few times," Catty said nonchalantly, as if it didn't matter what happened to her. Or that it wasn't exactly just getting punched in the face. She paused, looking him over before nodding at his arm. "You know you're bleeding, right?"
Kyp's frown deepened, both at what had happened to her and the way she just shrugged it off like it was nothing. "Who did this to you?" His mind nudged hers, gently, asking to see.
He hardly spared a glance at his arm when she pointed it out, shrugging it off as unimportant. "I've had worse." He wanted to reach out and touch the bruising on her face to see how bad it was, try and sooth it, but he was getting the strange impression that she wouldn't welcome that right now. It confused him, and it showed on his face.

If only there was a way to hide that, too.
