[He was just practicing. Practicing and getting out some pent-up anger. He had a lot of it lately. Seeing Lindsey and Lilah around had only added fuel to the fire. There had to be something he could do. Something short of killing them. They didn't deserve that, no no no. That would be playing nice. Until he could think of the perfect way to avenge Darla, he was busy still lurking around. Hacking up rakghouls.
Even though he could have, he didn't notice Buffy approaching until her voice was ringing in his ears. His grip on the vibroblade slackened.]
My pals? [He stares, confounded. He didn't have pals here. Cordy, maybe? But he cut those ties. Had to. It was for the greater good. ]
Yeah, you know. The ones you've been paling around with while you avoid me. Lie to me. [ She fixes him with a cold, tired stare. If the attempt on her life hadn't sealed the deal, the fact that he'd been around so much longer than he'd admitted did. Staring at him now, she couldn't even see Angel. Because he was gone. He had been for so long and she hadn't even been able to see it. She'd been so desperate, so scared -- But not anymore. ] Are we really gonna play this game? I know, Angel.
[When she says "I know," something completely different flashes in his mind. He thinks she's talking about Darla. Which means she just doesn't ~understand~.]
I know you don't believe me, and I'm not going to expect you to. But this is something I had to see through.
I know. [ She paces towards him, beginning to spin the sword by turning her wrist, then lifting it in preparation. ] I'm sure you have a long list of rationalizations. I'll bet it's probably taken a lot for you to justify this. To justify lying to me.
So, I'm sure you'll be equally understanding when I say this is just something I have to do. I'm sure you knew it was coming, sooner or later. [ She begins to circle. ] You had to.
