That had been exciting. Luke would have liked it more if not for Anakin, and how thanks to him being a horrible jerk about it all the Outworlder Jedi, and not just ones from his future, were going to be giving Luke odd looks. Probably forever ( ... )

It hadn't taken him long to sense someone's approach. While certainly no Jedi, Artoo's scanners were still very much functional. He tilted on his two main treads, peering down the hall, and when the young Skywalker appeared, settled back in an angle that he could easily lower his third leg.

Although he had not seen the boy's transition from a pre-teen into adolescence, it wasn't difficult for Artoo to pick out similarities between Anakin and the teenager that now stood in front of him. ...the overtunic had to be one of the most colorful things the droid had ever seen Luke wear for the time he'd known him- probably something of his mother's flashy fashion sense that had rubbed off on him- but now wasn't the time to be nostalgic.

The R2-unit beeped a greeting, domed head swiveling. He was a little disappointed not to be recognized- after all, how many astromechs were there around here? That tone flavored his electronic chatter, but his main sensors fixed back upon Luke almost expectantly.

"Sorry," Luke said, his gaze open and sincere, though he looked from the main lens up top to the others on the droid's dome, not sure which to stay with. "I don't know much binary."

He did pick up on the tone, of course. Was that a kind of chastisement? Why would it feel that way, he wondered.

He shifted his bag to the opposite shoulder and took a stab, curious. "What were you called? R2?" He pronounced it with a distinct if brief pause between ar and too.

The little droid twittered, having not meant to sound so upset. He gave a chirp in approval as Luke managed to correctly recall his model, and even though it wasn't quite as smooth as he was used to, Artoo supposed it was to be expected.

It would be easier if Leia or Han were here, but it didn't seem like either of them had accompanied Luke up. Oh well. Artoo whistled inquiringly, wondering how things were. At least it looked like the boy was all right.
