"I'd better," James replied, looking straight ahead instead of at his friend. He had to stay alert, now more than ever. Instinctively he dropped his hand to his pocket and made a fist as if to close around a wand.

He then heard a whir of machinery and had no hesitation in attempting to use magic. A rush of anger overtaking his mind and instincts, James flung his arm forward when the droid rounded the corner. It was the first in a cluster of hovering spheres, with two humanoid droids marching behind them.

James' gesture resulted in a blast of power, knocking him off his feet. He managed to drop the lead droid and send it crashing into the ground before his direction went awry. He quickly stood back up and began to use the same familiar wand motion as before. Fine tuning could come later.

At James' movement and the approach of the robots, droids, whatever this place wanted to call them, Sirius didn't hesitate to raise his hand in the same fashion. He wished for his wand again, for the ease of the spells he knew so well back home, and he had to stop himself from yelling a curse.

A blast of energy bolted from his hand as he concentrated, the attack a little more controlled than his friend's own, a few of the droids dropping from the air as they fried. The other droids paused at the sight of the others that had been destroyed, and Sirius took a step closer to James.

"Not bad," Sirius joked, though nothing about his tone sounded humorous.

James heard Sirius' comment but doesn't voice a response. He glances quickly in his friend's direction and turns his attention back to the droids. He makes the same wand motion with his arm and physically forces himself to stay planted and avoid kickback. All of his concentrated rage for Lily goes into another force blast, this one decapitating one of the humanoid robots.

He was about to move on to the next one when the droid kept moving. Frustrated at his own failure James angrily targeted the droid. This one exploded into several different pieces, various parts flying upwards and outwards.

There was a long enough pause to ask, "Would it be quicker if we got 'em at the same time?"

Ducking his had at the small blast caused by James, Sirius couldn't help but smirk. The wheels in his head turned as he thought about the difference of power between the two of them, the degree of control. James was younger, still in school in this version of himself, but he stopped himself there.

Now wasn't the time to evaluate anything but the current situation at hand.

"Possibly." Sirius grinned. "Couldn't hurt to try, right?"
