Because people insist on taking things from the Bible literally. And they conveniently forgot about the Separation of Church and State, something out forefather bolded, italicized and underlined.

Religion is all well and good in a church and religious classes. When science comes into play, it's time to put the book of faith down and use logic, observation, and empirical evidence.
