Ooh! Hugs Bucky. This is a great story. Please write more Invaders (we really need a fan fiction site for them).

We really do. I heard there was an Avenger Comm coming and they'd allow Invader fics as well, so I'm waiting on that so there aren't duplicate comms for the same kinda thing out there, but I'm on the verge of loosing patience *L*

We DO need an Invaders comm!

But... the Avengers and the Invaders aren't the same things...

/unhelpfully points out the obvious

IIRC, the rational was that those wanting an Avenger specific comm were a handful of people and those wanting an Invaders specific comm were a handful of people, so if we joined forces were are a decent sized group of people and we could share fandom love or something . . .

I don't know, I've slept a lot since this was all brought up *L*

Dear lord that was amazing.
I'm just . . . I need to re-read itto take it all in. I loved Bucky's voice in this, you can't even know how much.

Srsly, this is now bookmarked with a handful of other fics that I will just have to read over and over and over.

Wow.
Thank you!

Oh wow, I'm so glad you liked this. I love these characters a lot, and if I talk about them further it will just result in tl;dr, such is my way.

Bucky's voice is very fun to write.

Oh please feel free to TlDR about out the Invaders.
There is no such thing for me =P

I'm all about groups and I love this group, between Namor and Jim's bickering Toro and Bucky off and on bickering, Jim and Toro having a father son relationship and Bucky and Steve having a brother to brother relationship OMG it is like the best thing EVER.
And there's future tragedy to boot, so anything happy I write is auto-tainted with knowledge of what happens, and I love that ^__^

And it's such an sad yet compelling backdrop to do growing up stories with for Bucky and Toro :(

It's a great combination of the period elements-- obviously WWII is a really compelling backdrop -- and just, random comics crack. Plus several team members decline to wear pants!!

And yeah, you get all this ridiculous tragic future that everyone's aware of. Everyone's either dead or brainwashed or you know, still Namor. But sometimes Namor with pants, which, is perhaps the worst thing of all.

Oh, thank you. I write him a lot, so hopefully I've gotten some kind of a hold on his voice :)

Jason smiling is sort of frightening.

You're welcome! You definitely have a hold on his voice. <3

Aww, Jason ain't scary, even smiling. *love him lots even though DC obviously doesn't*

Oh, I like Jason a bunch too (you can insert whatever BftC related rant you want here) buuut I think he likes being intimidating. Blame Bruce, etc.

Everything about this fic is wonderful. EVERYTHING. Bucky's voice is perfect and I love how you've managed to capture pretty much all his major strengths and faults in one little fic. *flails*

I recc'd it at sequentialcrack. I hope you don't mind... *looks sheepish because I didn't ask first*

Oh, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I always feel a bit cheap when I go to write these WW2 stories-- they're so much easier for me than the post Cosmic Cube stuff, and I'm not sure why.

And rec away. I feel a bit bad though, seeing that-- partially because I have a half-done fic that is, basically, Invaders 101, that I should really finsih, and also because I didn't include any warnings on this when maybe I should have. But no, of course I don't mind. I'm really flattered!

Invaders 101, that I should really finsih,

Can I bribe you with fanart to finish this? OMG Invaders 101 fic would be some awesome! (I feel bad, whenever I write them I tend to leave Namor out, along with Spitfire and Union Jack >.>)

Can you bribe me? I dunno, sure, but at this point I'm kind of waiting for the next issue of Marvel's Project to come out so I get the continuity right. Why are they retconning everything again?

Also it's centered on the main five. Everyone does leave out UJ and poor Jackie (although I'm still in wtf vampire mode, there) which, uh I do feel bad about.

Plus. That's really not how you spell finish.

It also creates this awful time-loop whereby: does Bucky remember doing any of this?

No. And I don't care of Alex Ross gets up there himself and says Bucky does, no he doens't. We're not negating the Winter Kills story with something as lame as Avengers/Invaders. Nononononononon!
Namor is jsut made of special, that's why he remembers. >.>

Wait, okay I thought Bucky's name was actually James Buchanan Barnes, with Bucky as a nickname. I haven't read too many hissy fit Bucky fics, thank god.
However, I must confess that it is my fault that Tony calls him James in a fic. The author asked me Bucky or James, and given the time setting of the fic, I thought Tony would be more formal than familiar. I also thought he had at one point in canon, called Bucky James, but I don't now recall where I thought that was. It's also more about Tony's characterization than Bucky's in my head.

He also doesn't randomly break into Russian at the drop of a hat, fandom. I'm sorry :(I am missing all the crack Bucky stories it seems *L ( ... )

It would negate Winter Kills and the Young Allies special. Both of which are so much more worthwhile than A/I my god.

His name is James Buchanan Barnes. Bucky is from Buchanan. And actually, Tony does call him Bucky. He miiight throw out James at some point, but idk, don't remember it offhand. (Even Natasha does, when it's not to his face-- when she's talking about him to other people, it seems she uses Bucky?) But it's not about other characters calling him James so much as him throwing a hissy fit whenever someone calls him Bucky. Or whenever he has an "I'm not Bucky anymore, I'm James" moment. Dude is totally fine with his ridiculous 1940s nickname, and if you can't roll with that, deal. What's worse is fic where he insists on being called Winter Soldier.

The whole ending scene in Winter Kills was just amazing. Brubaker trumps puny Dynamite mini! Heh I still wonder of Poor Anne got notification her husbands grave had been "dug" up. I realize that's random, but I'm beginning to feel like Marvel wants to ignore the fact that Toro managed a normal life >.> (On a total side note, that must have been fun going from no one caring you can catch on fire to the mutant-phobia of later decades)

But it's not about other characters calling him James so much as him throwing a hissy fit whenever someone calls him Bucky. Or whenever he has an "I'm not Bucky anymore, I'm James" moment

AHHHHHHH okay that . . . yeah. He did have a "I'm not Bucky" moment though didn't he? Not as in any issue with his name but just as in, I'm not the twenty year old from 1944 anymore. I coulda sworn there was something, but some of the Bucky stuff, especially in conjunction with Wolverine, I had a real distaste for and kinda ignored and/or skimmed it.

What's worse is fic where he insists on being called Winter ( ... )

I sort of love that he managed a normal life. That's so much better than...idk, spending decades in a block of ice or being Namor.

He did have a "I'm not Bucky" moment though didn't he?

You mean, this?
