He's going to have to be taken back there anyway, and the would-be hero is going to have to to make a statement. Why bother calling other cops out for it?

"Carry him"? And if the man regained consciousness? It would be dangerous in the extreme. Further, would it truly be better to remove the criminal from the scene of the crime, notwithstanding that evidence might be destroyed by their incautious feet - or even by bruising upon the man himself, if he were dropped? Even the criminal himself, after all, can serve as evidence. No: better by far to stand watch and wait for the arrival of the police.
