I thought about using it to write more on our adventures in New York City, since I'm running out of space in the one I'm currently using, but decided ( Read more... )

Well, sure, you could consult with him, or you could talk to somebody who's had the book for a long while.

This is a very logical assumption and Holmes might be...out for the night. I think he got into my morphine.

Well, would you be so kind as to inform a poor immigrant?

Well, it's 19356 in New York City and I recently moved from England. ...Though I can't remember why. Strange indeed.

Thankfully I know my own name.

An appointment for what, sir?

A check-up, a consultation on an ache, etc. I assure you, English doctors are the best doctors.

I would hope all doctors would be the same.

The most eccentric, I can tell you that. A Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Why? Has he been causing trouble in the city?

[Very shaky, very bad handwriting. To the trained doctor's eye, it might be apparent that Griffin's not writing with his strong hand.]

A bloke doctor? That's a new one.

So you get a magic book and decide to cure people? A bit nuts, if you ask me. But if you're pals with Holmes, I guess you have to be a bit nuts.

Decide to cure--? Sir, I don't believe in any of that hocus-pocus. I do what I can with the training I have received. I have seen many men die due to lack of medical attention, like in the Great War.

[Watson pauses; for some reason, this assertion doesn't feel correct]

Now would you care to stop by? Your handwriting looks like you've had a stroke.

I wasn't being literal.

What kind of doctor are you? If I had a stroke, I wouldn't be writing, now would I?

There are different degrees of strokes. Sometimes, a person can have one and not know about it. And now you're irritable. I'd like to inspect you at once.

Sorry to disappoint you, but your buddy hasn't made much progress yet.

A case that's cracked Holmes? Impossible. Well, he does have the tendency to bite off more than he can chew.

He's choking on this one, I assure you.
