welcome to my journal!

this was originally posted on May 25, 2009 as a normal entry, but I decided, as I seek work and make plans to enter the educational field, to make it 'the entry everyone sees upon arrival'. I have been keeping this blog, almost daily, for 9 years now. When I began, it was very cutting edge to do this - and I was a cutting edge web developer, so all ( Read more... )

We are the interstitial generation. We are the ones who grew up without the Internet, and then ended up having one.

The generation before us didn't expect to have their lives put online and archived, and they're at a point in their lives where it doesn't actually matter, anymore.

The generation after us will be used to having risque pictures from one's youth up for all to see; it's what they do. They'll be completely expected and forgotten (or at least, mentally walled off).

Generation X is in the unenviable position of having employers who will harshly judge anything personal found on the Internet, and having employees who don't see the big deal.

In other words, this is strictly our problem.

One hopes; I came across that quote while putting together notes for what might become a paper extolling the return to 50s values of respecting privacy (it's simply too vague right now, but it deals with paparazzi, and tweeting, and has a weird divergence into the rise of the family sitcom in the late 50s and 60s (needs more consideration, but I wonder if it's easier to snoop in a real private life if you spend an hour or two each week snooping in a fictional one), and blogging and last.fm sites and lots of that ( ... )

I have hopes that this be the case. I think it makes sense that this would be the case.

Hypnotism Demonstration at WorldCon anonymous August 2 2009, 17:54:28 UTC
Farah Mendlesohn of Anticipation Programming has told
me you might be interested in volunteering as
a demonstration subject in my hypnotism lecture/demo.

Can we get together for an hour or two beforehand to
determine if you are a suitable subject and do a
little preparation to ensure that the demonstration
at the lecture goes smoothly.

I shall need two or three subjects at the lecture
(20:00 Saturday if you didn't know - conflicts with
the Masquerade) and will be checking out rather more
volunteers than that to ensure that I have enough on
the night.

I arrive in Montreal late on Wednesday the 5th and
may not get email very often once the Con starts -
but I shall be checking the Voodoo Message Board at
the main entrance to 210 Exhibit Hall from time to
time. I will also see SMS messages sent to my (UK)
cellphone number +44 7785-305598 and my email
(which is fine until I leave England on the 5th)
is james@jbryant.eu.

Thank you for volunteering - James

Hey!

This is gonna seem super random but I saw you're into drawing... Not a lot of my friends are into art (I just joined LJ this week) so I thought I'd look for artists to befriend... :3

Dunno if you post about your art, if not that's ok ^^; I still enjoy reading people's entries and stuff and share my own art. Anyways... Let me know!
