Dreamwidth and other Burblings

Feb 14, 2017 21:20

First up, I'm not all that taken with Dreamwidth, so I'm back posting directly here.  But because I still don't want to lose anything, I'm copying and pasting on DW.  It's a bit of a pain, but easier than trying to host pictures elsewhere, and with most friends on LJ it's easier to include their LJ names here.  (But for those of you reading on DW, ( Read more... )

I look back on theatre reviews and book reviews - and I use my Brownie posts when writing for our local news publication, so I don't want to lose stuff.

Yes, it's annoying. Some people are understanding and say they'll phone back in a few days, but others behave as if you're at their back and call.

My Brownie articles are not in quite the same league as some of my other writing. But if it keeps us in the public attention it's all good.

I'm not a big fan of Dreamwidth either, but I feel better backing up my posts there and having that bit of insurance.

Unfortunately, I think people are unreasonable because they're selfish. It's the trait I hate most and the characteristic all humans share. It's just that some people, like your boss and those customers, seem to possess it in abundance...

Thank goodness for fluffy fic and chocolates! Happy Valentine's Day! :-)

We're selfish because that is important for self-preservation. However some people seem to have unreasonable expectations of what they are entitled to.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Yes, it's those unreasonable expectations of what they should be entitled to.

If you post *from* DW, you just check the "cross post to LJ" button and it will do the job for you. It's how I've done almost all my posts since 2009. The only thing you have to fix is that the [lj user] tag comes out with DW symbols (even on LJ), so I edit my LJ posts to give them LJ user symbols, instead. As long as my pictures aren't locked, I can provide LJ-based links even on my DW post. The only time it won't work is if I have a locked LJ album/photos; then I'll do an LJ post with the pictures and, on DW, just do a post pointing people to LJ.

But, most of the time, just posting from DW and checking the "cross post" buttons works fine, and negates the need to C&P.

Hopefully W will be well enough to return soon, before your customers self-combust. :P

I did try cross posting from DW, but found editing the LJ user names a pain - and most of my friends are on LJ. I also dislike the way the tags work, and that if I hit enter when I chose a tag it posts at that point.

Had the customers self-combusted I don't think I'd have been too bothered - so long as I wasn't required to clear up the mess ;)

Ahhh. I type the tags in manually, so I didn't realise that was a problem during cross-posting from DW. But I can see why that would be off-putting!

I also like looking at my list of tags and choosing which ones to use, which I can't seem to do on DW.

Sorry people have been so unreasonable! That's lame.

And I feel you. Not a super huge fan of Dreamwidth, but the crosspost feature works well enough for my personal blog, so I'm keeping with it. I totally do the copy-paste thing for my comm, though.

I've found lots of niggles with DW, which is why I came back here. But I will keep it for archive purposes.

I can understand your feelings about DW - I'm nowhere near as enthusiastic about it as I am about LJ but I think I'm going to carry on cross-posting just so that I have a back-up!

I'm sorry that people are being so inconsiderate at work - how hard is it for people to understand that people are ill and thus not working?!

I've been loving the fluffy Valentine's fics as well - especially the Lucas/Adam ones! ♥

I'm glad you've enjoyed the Lucas/Adam fluff. I'm planning on making him sad again soon ;)
