Work Update

I've still been looking round for a second job.  Just before we went on holiday I went for an interview for an interesting job, about five minutes drive from home.  The interview went well, the interviewer more or less said they'd be inviting me back for a second interview and then when we were away I got a rejection.  I was disappointed, but at ( Read more... )

My fingers are crossed that it works out well - and the suits get round to telling you so.

They seem happy enough at the moment. And I'm slowly getting to grips with the work.

I'm sorry the first one fell through - but I'm sure something better will roll up.

I love how positive you are about using the free time though... and yay for staying in the PJs when you can!

For the moment this present job pays enough for me not to need anything else, so I'll roll with it.

It's a lot easier now I don't feel as if I should be working (as in paid work for someone). It was just beginning to feel as if I was wasting time, but now it feels more like I can do what I like. And I suppose I should start thinking of making the Christmas cake ...

Two of my colleagues are retiring within the year and while I haven't really given any thought to retirement I'm starting to think what I would do with that time... not that you're retiring of course I just meant the great pondering of what you might do with more free time.

PJs sounds like a really good start. :D

It's a number of years until I retire, but I do like the idea of having more time to myself. And especially the chance to choose what I do each day, rather than following a strict routine.

I've done a Peanuts self-portrait too - I'm using it for my profile picture on DA ^^ I do believe we've selected the same sensible anorak :P

I do feel annoyed on your behalf about the interviewer pretending to show interest, and then rejecting you as soon as you were no longer face to face. It's unpleasant behaviour. And I'm rather irritated by your employers tying you to an extra day but giving you no extra hours. Employers seem to have all the power at the moment. I hope everything eventually leans a bit more in your favour ^^ And at least you've got a bit of free time to do writing and other things.

Yes, definitely the same anorak - although I went for a brighter colour!

Sorry, I didn't mean to mislead you - they did give me my extra hours - on the basis that I'm having to catch up a lot of work so this means I should catch up quicker (although I don't think they appreciate how much needs doing).

The free time is amazing - I'm working five hours less than I was, but with the reduction in weekly travel time (3 days not 5) and shorter lunch breaks it's given me the equivalent of an extra day off, plus extended hours when I am working mean another day free.

I'm sorry you haven't had more luck finding a second job, but I admire you for staying so positive and setting up goals for yourself. And it's not unheard of to be turned down for one job at a company and then be hired for something else. That happened to me once, so you never know. I hope you get those four extra hours at your current job, though there's obviously an advantage to shorter Tuesdays and Wednesdays. ;-)

I did get the extra hours, but they are split between the two days, which suited me.

I'm very pleased that happened, because the other job still hasn't got back to me - I do dislike potential employers who say one thing and do another - it gives limited trust from the beginning, I think.
