After the initial excitement of well, everything, had died down, and all the wounded had been put to sleep (weather they liked it or not), Jade had finally found a few blissful hours to sleep. Normally, he prided himself on his ability to work long past the insomnia threshold of others, but the adrenaline the whole affair had generated had been excessively taxing.

So Jade, considerably less haggard than on his last visit, stepped into Hijikata's room with a cheerful smirk in place. "Good morning, Lt. Commander. Feeling better, I hope~?"

As usual, Jade was greeted by Hijikata's ever-present scowl that only deepened with the presence of the fine doctor. The boatswain half-glared at the other man as he entered, hair notable more disheveled than it usually was as the man had only just got up from another doze about half an hour earlier; there was pretty much nothing else to do besides sleeping and eating and glaring at thin air. And now finally after all of this, he'd be free from all this bullshit - that was what he was most looking forward to.

Even though he was about to be discharged (he was going to be discharged, right? He already was going mad from the lack of activity that he was so used to), Hijikata only contiuned to scowl at the doctor at his smirk, and even more at his voice. Couldn't they have gotten a less annoying doctor?

"...I need my cigarettes," muttered the man in response as he turned back to glaring at the space in front of him. Best not to let his temper flare again now, after all.

Well, if that salutary glare was any indication, Hijikata was more than recovered. Jade held his smirk in place, perhaps even widening it at the boatswains obvious irritation.

"You really don't, actually." He spoke firmly and leveled his gaze at the younger man. "I am very strongly recommending that you refrain from smoking for at least another week - your respiratory system needs time to recover before further subjugation."

"..." Hijikata paused there and then as he looked at the doctor, the blank face hiding the growing, seething rage of the boatswain. This just has to be a goddamn fucking joke; his nerves were already grated enough with the past five days or so with going without cigarettes - and now with another week, Hijikata knew he'd definitely just snap. And hell if the doctor thought that he could make him stop - he needed his cigarettes to help him relax, damnit. That or he'd be long growing white hairs like the bastard. "I've already been slogging through the past five days without them," he said in a low, bland voice, "another week is going to fucking kill me."
