Vash ran up onto the top deck, his journal held tightly under one arm. He had set it to view voice messages, and hadn't turned down the volume much; there was all sorts of shouting being broadcast about the bombs.
He slowed only slightly when he saw Ryuzaki standing there, and then ran straight towards him, shouting over the volume of his journal.
"HEY! Have you seen the captain?! He - he won't leave the ship, and I don't know where he went!"
L turned around to see Vash running full speed at him and not really slowing down to find an answer. He'd kept up some with the journals though, coordinating some of the crew.
"He was down in the Infirmary a minute or two ago. There was a patient and a bomb."
Vash slowed to a stop when he heard that, whirling around to face where the infirmary would be, if it weren't a few decks below them. He couldn't get down there as fast as he wanted. Only Kurt could do that, and that's what made trying to chase him so infuriating.
"DAMN IT! Why doesn't he ever listen to me?! He can't do all of it by himself!" He was gritting his teeth so hard, it was almost audible over the noise his journal was making.
"I need you to let the crew know not to look for me. I have to find him!"
L frowned, Vash obviously wasn't thinking clearly.
"The best chance to get through this with minimal loss of life and property is to remain calm and not act rashly. We must sweep methodically. Please do not act recklessly."
He didn't want anyone getting hurt if it could be avoided.
A bomb. In the kitchen. Now that was just -- well, it was just plain rude!
She'd heard the beeping first, and the mice had shown her where it was. For a moment, all Giselle could do was stare at it; it seemed unreal, somehow. Even as she stared at it, heard it ticking away, it didn't really register that there was a bomb in her kitchen --
Oh my, she thought, in an odd, detached sort of way. Watanuki is not going to be a very happy camper about this!
Then it occurred to her that there was a bomb in the kitchen and she should really be running about now --
She barely even remembered to scoop up her journal as she went; she abandoned the food she'd been gathering and just ran out of there, the mice on her heels. She heard the explosion behind her as she raced away, felt the heat against her back --
Something slammed into her, knocking her over. She landed face-first on the galley floor, something heavy on top of her and pinning her to the ground. After a moment of dizziness, she managed to get her
( ... )
Out of nowhere came Haine, who still looked pale and color, but not as God awful as she did. "Hold on," she said, going to Giselle, and she may notice that Haine was using the board she'd gotten from Beat as one of her 'legs', her left leg caked in and dripping blood, dangling uselessly. However, Haine was Haine, which was why she took the table with both hands, braced herself against a wall, and grunted as she lifted it. When it was enough for Giselle to worm out, she gasped out a brief "Go!"
Giselle felt like her heart was going to burst out of her chest. From fear, from relief, from concern once she saw Haine's leg -- but now there was enough space to get free, and she managed to drag herself out.
"Haine --" she started, but she broke off. What could really be said right now?
There was a ringing in her ears, and one of her arms didn't feel like it was on quite right -- but she could stand, and she was sure she could make it out. The mice had by this point found her journal, although they themselves ran off the moment they saw she was safe, almost like something had called them away...
Well, at least they were getting out of there. Giselle offered her arm to Haine for support, taking a deep breath to try and steady herself.
"It'll be faster if you lean on me," she said. Her voice was shaking just a little, even though she was doing her best to sound brave. "The mice told me where some of the bombs are, before -- I think I can get us off safely. Is there anyone else still on the ship?"
Letting the table fall with a decisive 'bang', Haine sighed, letting herself be selfish and take Giselle's offer to lean on her, because honestly? Her leg hurt like a bitch. Not to mention she was still feeling sick, but at least the puking had subsided.
For now.
"I... don't know," she admitted, keeping Beat's board and her journal; that was all she grabbed. "There was a bomb near the infirmary... The minute I heard it, I ran as much as I could... There was so much smoke..." She coughed, a mixture of her illness and the said smoke she'd been inhaling as her dizzy, sick mind tried to navigate a smoke-filled ship.
After taking care of the engine room, Shadow had moved quickly about the ship and had found and disabled several more bombs that he had managed to find. Having studied all sorts of weapons and devices while being trained by the Ark scientists, he recognized that none of these bombs were particularly well made or expensive. Whoever did this, they obviously did not have access to much in the way of resources, probably not professionals, though they did seem to have a good idea of how to place the devices where they would do the most damage.
He came upon L when he decided to search the top deck. This man was not someone he'd spoken to, but he had seen him around the Way. He didn't look like much, but he seemed to know what he was doing at present. "The engines and the main storage area have been taken care of." He said.
"That is a weight off. All that remains now is to see that we do not acquire too much structural damage." He thought for a few moments. "It will be difficult to determine what other areas might be targeted, there is already word that the kitchen and infirmary were targeted. And those are not strategic in the collapsing of structure so much as morale."
He'd never actually run in to Shadow before, to be honest he was a bit confused by the hedgehog, but it was easy to see that he was capable... and fast.
"Do you know the ship well enough to know her structural weaknesses?" He would need to sweep the rest of the floors in their teams, to keep there from being too much damage.
Shadow had been wandering the Way whenever he was bored and restless enough that he had not felt like remaining in his room and didn't have work, but he didn't think he knew the ship that well. "I know a few places that haven't been checked already, but not all of them." He replied.
L nodded. "It seems you'll be much faster than a team. Check them, quickly, and then return to the top deck, we'll begin our sweep. Keep your ears open as well."
L began to walk the top deck. although it was unlikely there were any devices here, it wouldn't do to have a top floor collapse while they were searching underneath.
Hna was in the middle of making a journal entry when the bomb decided that it was time to explode. Fortunately, Hana was standing sufficiently far away that he didn't get caught up in it. Unfortunately, he was still thrown backwards by the shockwave, and the last thing he remembered before losing consciousness was a doorframe coming up very quickly to meet his face....and then there was nothing but blackness. He lay, helpless and unconscious outside the wreckage of what had been the infirmary.
Rhyme was already running through the corridors, journal dropped in the fray. She needed to get to Hana, she wasn't going to not be there like she was for Beat and Winry. And Hana Promised he wouldn't leave!
She arrived at the infirmary door to see Hana lying there, unconscious or worse.
"No! No! That's bad!" Thankfully she already had some experience with this sort of thing. She checked for a pulse. Slow, but present! "Please be ok!"
There was a huge gash in his forehead and he was bleeding pretty badly. She put her hands on his forehead and tried to get her magic to work. "Please, please, please."
Hana groaned as the magic flowed through his head, knitting together skin and flesh and repairing the damage. His eyes fluttered open, but he didn't move outside of that.
Rhyme gave a squeak of happiness. He was alright! She would have hugged him but it was hard to be sure he wasn't more injured and she didn't want to hurt him.
"You're outside of the Infirmary and you're a horrible meany!"
Alfons, by all means, should have been off the ship by then. There were bombs for God's sake, and he was by no means willing to let himself get hurt, let alone die. He would have been much safer off the ship, and a lot less likely to get himself hurt beyond repair - and he had a dream to work toward, still, after all. Not to mention the stress and running around wasn't helping his lungs at all...
But he had experience with engineering and mechanics, and that sort of thing would come in handy with disabling bombs - and he could always run for it if he heard the beeping and couldn't disable one fast enough (self preservation was important, after all). So he figured he'd be able to lend a hand...
On her way to racing down the hall, she spotted a familiar head of blond hair and almost fell over her feet in an attempt to stop running.
"Alfons?! What the hell are you doing on board?!"
Okay, so maybe that was a little harsher than intended but what was he thinking?! You can't just have people meandering around on a ship that's exploding all over the place. Not unless they can fend for themselves or do something about these stupid bombs, anyways.
Alfons was a bit startled by the sudden voice, but when he turned he just offered Yuffie an awkward sort of smile.
Well, at least that meant more than one person agreed it was a stupid idea?
"Ah...Frau Yuffie," he mentally kicked himself at the still raspy quality of his voice, "Ich - I was going to help. I told du before that I know of engineering, ja? So I figured that if I were to find anything, I would be able to figure it out..."

"You sound like you're coughing up your lung and this stupid smoke isn't going to help that. Just--I don't know, help the people off board! Idiot!"
Why was everyone on the Winding Way so suicidal?! It was like she was the only person with a working head on their shoulders, dammit.
