First he had awoken up today with an ungodly hangover after the whole thing with getting smashed with Edgeworth (and again, him of all people...) and although the rest of the day had passed with realtive peace (and taking quite a lot of asprin), this was what he had not been looking forward to the most of all. But orders were orders, and thus the boatswain had dragged himself out to the event - wearing a tuxedo ( ... )

...still, he supposed it was... alright to see him outside of work for once. Toshirou grunted in response to the other's greeting, arms crossed over his chest as the dark-haired man kept the irritable scowl on his face, snorting out a reply. "Its not like I wanted to be here as well," he grumbled out in irritation, "I was ordered to be here by the ba---the first mate." Hijikata stopped himself before he would regret it. As much as he loathed Edgeworth, he did have to give the man some proper respect. And well, he was supposed to meet his elder cousin for a smoke and to catch up on old times, but that little tidbit of information wasn't going to be let out anytime soon.

Of course, he then pointed out that he was wearing proper clothing. And, upon closer inspection,t he staff members had to agree that...yes, he was in fact wearing a tuxedo. A very nice tuxedo, in fact. But the manner in which he was wearing it...
The first one scampered off after Hiruma flashed some teeth at him. The other one was more stubborn, and he actually had to pull out the Extortion Book to get him to go away (the man had stolen various small items from the university during his employment there). But now he was inside, and in the mood for some partying. Grinning, he noted the position of the food tables and beelined for them, eager to get started.

He had promised Mr. Sogyo that he would bring him back something tasty to eat (and had even brought along a large paper bag to carry it in). Alfred sighed. He'd just have to taste-test everything until he found something good enough to take back with him.
Alfred looked up just in time to see someone headed his way. "Yo," he greeted through a mouth full of food. After all, at banquet, like this, one has to be mindful of their manners.

"Ah, you're that fucking gunner, aren't you?" he asked. "Enjoying the food?"

Truth be told, he'd eat anything, even if it was blue and glowing, but... "The food? It's not bad- it's not like the food we get back in Vohemar, but it's still OK! It's not as good as, like, let's say, French fries, but it's un-hero-like to complain about free food at a party! And if all else fails, the drinks are top notch!"

It was times like this when he briefly entertained drinking. Or, at least, smoking.

"I should think that's rather obvious," he said, discreetly glancing at her hairline.

He headed over to pay his respects to the Admiral. "Good evening, sir, Miss--?" He thought it was Melissa Foster, the cook, but she really looked like the girl they'd met the day before.

He found a nice out of the way spot where he could just stand and observe without being a bother... he was really just there to watch. And get desert. That last part was important.

Well, no matter. When he arrived it was obvious that despite the grand, inviting setting they'd been granted, the party wasn't quite in full swing. There was a stiff tension in the room, and a definite division between the two crews. He shrugged philosophically to himself, grabbed a plate of food from the table and looked around for a familiar face, grinning when he saw Souji standing unobtrusively against the back wall.
“You know, you’re not gonna have any fun if you hide in the corner all night,” he announced in a sing-song tone as he approached the other mechanic.

"Oh, I'm mostly here for the desert," he joked, keeping one eye on the room. Hijikata would be showing up eventually... Pulling himself away from that thought, he looked back at his crewmate. "And if something does happen, I'd rather be here than back on the ship. I wouldn't want to be cut off from the rest of the crew."
Besides, this was really only a semblance of a party. He doubted very few of the attendees where there to 'have fun.' Everyone seemed preoccupied with sizing each other up. "Thank you for the hairpin," he added, touching it lightly with one hand. "It worked out rather well."

"From what I've heard that's probably a pretty normal expression for him. Though, I wouldn't be surprised if he's as angry about all of this as I am." She turned her gaze away, not wanting to be caught staring. The last thing she wanted was anything that could spark a premature conversation.
She had to wonder if she was as easy to pick out as von Karma. She sincerely hoped not, though the rumor of the 'little girl captain' was fairly widespread by now. She quite hated to be remembered primarily for her age, but some things couldn't be helped. She just had to prove that her strength was genuine and that she was worth remembering for that and not her age.
She cast a glance over her own crew. "Keep an eye out. If there's trouble, I want my crew out of here fast." She frowned. She really didn't trust Ivona not to pull any tricks.
