HAY KARMY MEET YOUR NEW BFF~ |D traveler_boy December 1 2010, 01:29:45 UTC
Normally Spader didn't enter the training room, if for no other reason than he didn't really have any business in there. He was a Mechanic, and, to be blunt, his hand-to-hand combat skills sucked. And his aim with a gun was even worse. But today the dark-haired boy felt like exploring some of the parts of the ship he hadn't seen yet, and since the training room was closest, that was at the top of the list.

So he wandered casually into the training area, and much to his pleasant surprise saw a person already in there. He was a wee bit sour-looking, but that was no reason not to be friendly, so he put on his most charming smile and entered the room.

"Hobey-ho, mate." Spader greeted cheerfully, staying back a bit in case this man turned out to be training. It was only polite, and after all, why else would this man be in the training room?

...'hobey-ho?' von Karma would (grudgingly) admit that he wasn't an expert on dialects and slang and whatnot, but that didn't necessarily mean he wasn't allowed to think that it sounded completely inane.

"If you're here for training, then say so; if not, I suggest you leave," said von Karma irritably.

Oh, methinks Spader can change that. And it's not like von Karma has a choice. traveler_boy December 1 2010, 11:07:09 UTC
Yep. Just a wee bit sour. Spader chuckled at the man's greeting.

"Usually people greet others with a 'hello, how are you' but I suppose that works too," the dark-haired boy said lightly, easily brushing off how rude the greeting had been.

"'Fraid I'm not in here to train, mate. Just figured I'd do a little explorin', see as much of the ship as I can. I'm not much of a fighter anyway; been wantin' to learn though." Spader explained, still in good nature.

"Allow me to introduce myself, mate. The name's Spader. Vo Spader. I'm a mechanic here. Happy to meet you." Spader said in his friendliest tone, wandering closer and holding a hand out for von Karma to shake.

von Karma was pondering whether or not to point out that if he wanted to learn to fight, then training would probably facilitate that... but it would be best to see how bearable this person was first.

At least he seemed vaguely polite.

"Then you have no reason to be here," said von Karma, before pausing. "Though, I suppose you're not interrupting anything... as long as you don't touch anything, I'll tolerate it."

He inspected the young man's hand before somewhat reluctantly shaking it.

"Manfred von Karma. I'm-" far too skilled and qualified to be in this position "-a combat trainer on this ship."

Von Karma was not the only early riser on board the ship. Decades of being in charge of various military outposts and underlings had ingrained an early waking time for a certain tea-loving old man. True, Iroh's personal preference was to sleep in as late as he could, next to a lovely companion whenever possible. Sadly, he'd been noticing a tragic lack of lovely companions of late, and was slipping back into his habit of waking early. He tended to sleep badly when alone ( ... )

It was no surprise to von Karma that Iroh was on the ship; he'd already heard about it through the network. He had rather mixed feelings on the man; on one hand, abandoning one's post in any situation was inexcusable... on the other, Iroh had rather excellent taste in tea, and at the moment he was more inclined to have some tea than to harp on past failures.

"Admiral," said von Karma curtly, finding the familiarity of given names to be somewhat uncomfortable. "I wondered when we'd cross paths."

Still as rigid as ever, apparently. Oh well. He waved the hand not currently holding the teapot dismissively. "None of that, please. It is just 'Iroh,' now."

He looked around the combat training room with interest. He'd seen it in passing, of course, but had not availed himself of it yet. Practicing Firebending tended to not be such a good idea when in an airship... too many easily flammable things.

"I did as well," he continued with a smile. "I would have thought it would have been much sooner, but this ship is much larger than it looks."

"...fine," said von Karma somewhat hesitantly. He supposed he could conveniently 'forget' that request in about five minutes.

"It certainly is. I imagine it has something to do with our... unique captain."

Red could of sworn he hid that last bottle of ketchup and locked it up someplace safe. He really did!

But somehow the electric rat had found it, and was gorging itself on the dipping product once again.

So into the training room, the two went, Pika being obsessive with the ketchup again., to work off the extra weight the chubbychu was picking up. Noting the other man in room, the former champion pulled his hat in greeting.

...The yellow... rodent did not warrant commenting on. At all.

...actually, perhaps it did; von Karma had to wonder why there was a sudden influx of people running around with the sorts of strange animals that were similar to the ones that had been involved in that one mission. ...how long ago was that? ...well, it didn't bear thinking too much about.

"I assume you don't have an appointment."

Red tilted his head in confusion.

"No. Why?"

"This is the training room," said von Karma snappishly. "Unless, of course, you're just doing it on your own."

As far as Nena knew, the job of transporting that guy to Kropmork was proceeding smoothly, which left her with not a lot to do. At all. Definitely the perfect time to train.

The girl walked into the training room, nodding at von Karma when she caught sight of him.

"Hey. Do you think you can teach me something new?"
