Hojo, however, wasn't the sort of person who wouldn't notice. Indeed, when he shuffled into the Infirmary later that day and, after giving just a cursory glance at his colleague, he had only sorted out the things on his desk and made a few notes before he opened the cupboard and narrowed his eyes when everything wasn't in order. Scowling, he looked to the back of it, to see if what he was looking for had been misplaced.

With a distinctly unhappy look on his face, he pulled out the various draws in his workspace and peered inside, wondering how he could have misplaced such an obvious piece of equipment. Then, with an extremely sour look, he turned to Ari and folded his arms.

"I hope my accusations are unfounded," he started snidely, "but I wonder if you are the one who has been going through my equipment cupboard?"

Ari froze in place, rolling her eyes at her equipment array before Hojo could properly see her face. Of course he'd come in right now. Of course. He couldn't have waited until she was good and done with today's work, now could he?

"Sorry to dash your hopes," she replied calmly, with only a hint of a smirk lingering around the corners of her mouth. "But it's not as though you were using the damned stuff anyhow. I've watched. You haven't touched any of this for a week."

"You've been watching me?" His sneer didn't leave his face, or his voice. "How flattering."

His eyes narrowed a fraction at her flippancy regarding his properly, even so. As far as territory went, borrowing his equipment regardless of whether or not he was using it at the time pushed the boundaries a little far.

"Does whether I've used it matter?" He asked, looking at her over the top of his lenses, the smirk now gone, replaced by a rather nastier look. "I'd rather not have to resort to locking away my equipment to prevent light-fingered colleagues using it without my permission, but if it happens again, I may be forced to."

It was very clear that he was absolutely not used to having to share his things with other people or, at the very least, that other people usually had to ask his permission to do anything.

"It does if you're not here when I need the damned equipment," she snapped back. Her face looked pinched, her expression exasperated where his was disdainful. "I would have asked if you'd been here, but the tests were urgent, and our schedules haven't meshed of late." She neglected to mention that the blood tests, run on various samples of demihuman blood that she'd managed to extract, were for her own benefit. The pain had been worse of late, and even her amulet wouldn't be able to hold off the inevitable.

"It would have gone back to your cabinets, all washed and fresh and neat, when I was done."
