On the opposite side of the spectrum, Shiro was everything but nervous. As she was being directed to who she was told was her uncle's room -- since when did she have an uncle, anyway? -- she fantasized about what he'd look like. Probably tall. (But then again, everyone was tall compared to her.) Maybe short, thinning hair. Maybe he'd look like her Grandpa! Did that mean he'd have tubes running in and out of him? Hopefully, there'd be cookies in store for her. Grandpa always kept sweets for her.
The door finally entered her line of sight, and when she was left alone, the albino banged a gloved palm against it thrice, not realizing that it was common courtesy to knock rather than bang. Naturally, it was difficult to know what not to do when one wasn't told not to do it.
"Hey, open up!" Shiro demanded with as little respect as possible.
Ukitake nearly jumped at the rather loud knock - louder than expected, certainly, and he was a little tenser than usual. The voice was unfamiliar to him, though rather distinctly childlike. Still, that in of itself was no surprise - the last time he had seen Shiro she had barely been a toddler.
He pulled open the door and glanced down at the young, white-haired girl waiting outside. He gave her a smile, and stood out of the doorway so she could enter. "Come in, Shiro."

... She would have to work on that someday.
