She had awoken from the middle of a dream,
As things were not as still as they seemed.
A creature was stirring through out the house,
And Paula was sure that it was not a mouse.

In all actuality she'd been up for some time,
It was just that those things were much easier to rhyme.
She had left a plethora of sweets in the kitchen to cool,
And now was the time to bundle them before they were pinched by a fool.

Paula had paused in the hall having heard a faint laugh.
Was it there or had she imagined it, was she going daff?
But oh that scent, that spice she could smell!
It wasn't expected, but gee it was swell!

Into the kitchen, she flipped on a light,
and was confused to find that there was no one in sight.
The scents were still fresh, so it hadn't been long.
Was the cook still there, or had they since gone?

"Hello?" She tried out, looking from side to side,
perhaps someone was there, they were just trying to hide?

It was not in the nature of Hexadecimal to hide, not at all. Thus, when she saw that it was Paula, she came out of her hiding spot with a [Wide Grin,] knowing that at least her cookie was already finished and tucked away where she wouldn't be able to see it until Lunasa. (It did not occur to Hex that Paula might be able to determine what she was getting from the cookies that were still visible.)

"Hello, dear!"

Despite her best efforts not to, Paula still moved back a step with an inaudible "eep!" Hexadecimal was still a surprise no matter what form she came in, but this one most of all for the time being. But Paula's smile was quick to light on her face despite her surprise.

"Good evening, Hex!" She greeted cheerfully. Her nose twitched a little as the smell of spice was much stronger in the actual kitchen. Mmmm. "Getting in some late night baking?"

Hex looked [Blank.] "Why would you think that, dear?" With a swish of her hand, her mask switched to [Amused.] "I didn't think most people would want me tying up the kitchens during the day..." Well, that and most of the cooks probably wouldn't want her in them at all, but Hex wasn't going to say that.

"Did I wake you?"
