This, Ari thought as she took her glass in hand and nodded her thanks to the waiter, was more like it. The bar was posh, and a welcome respite from the infirmary of the ship. The fact that they had a small table in the corner, far from the crowd, only made it better.

"Routine," she replied after a moment's thought, "and not all within my field. I have medical training, but it's not my specialty. Still, it is good to maintain a wide range of experiences, and I'm certainly getting that in spades." Dr. Emory took a slow sip of her screwdriver. "And how do you find it?"

"While I have my reservations on some of the crew, I don't think it's too bad. At the very least it is sort of a step up from my first job." It was kind of sad that he considered not being insulted every day an improvement. He also hadn't been able to do much on the Victoria II so working on a ship was still new to him.

"Lab assistant?" Ari asked idly, wondering when in the hell a waiter would be here to take their order. She wasn't terribly hungry, but something small would be nice, and the establishment had a good reputation for both drinks and appetizers. Thus far, at least, she could tell that the drinks were good. "Though I would think that a private practice might be more in keeping with your line of medical practice. Why don't you have your own offices?" she asked, ever the direct one.

Chase shook his head. "The guy I was doing my fellowship with." He paused to take another sip of his drink, then shrugged. "I'm military. I go where I'm assigned to be. It's not like I mind not having an office, since I don't do research." He wasn't hiding his military background, it's just that there was no need to bring it up.
