Lau wandered the decks of the Amestris, hands tucked and folded inside billowing silk sleeves. He'd chosen a deep crimson robe for the occasion - he hadn't seen Madame Red in months, being occupied with business both legitimate and otherwise, although he had sent flowers and congratulations when he'd heard of her discharge from the hospital.

Finally reaching the Madame's quarters, he extended a hand to tap gently on her door. Ran Mao usually opened doors for security reasons, but Lau had left the bodyguard in their cabin to finish unpacking her things. After all, Madame Red was one of his few "old friends" who wasn't actively trying to kill him.

Lau supposed he just had that effect on people.

"Come in."

Ann would never kill Lau. He was too amusing.

"Ahh, my dear friend, it has been far too long since we've last seen one another!" Lau exclaimed, swooping into the room with a rustle of silk to place a gentlemanly kiss on Madame Red's hand. "I'm thrilled to see you in such good health. As I'm sure you know, red is the color of fortune in the region of my country where I was born. Seeing you here must be an omen of good things to come."

Of course, they both knew that with Lau's connections, it was no accident that he'd been assigned a diplomatic position on the Amestris, but then again Lau was a man who had always made his own luck.

Ann smiled and stood to kiss Lau's cheeks. "'Good health' is highly subjective," she commented. "But it is good to see you again. I was almost afraid you had left this world when you stopped visiting or sending flowers." That was a lie; it was practically impossible to kill Lau, and she knew it. But still. "No Ran Mao today?"
