It was a good thing that not much damage had happened with this whole thing. Though he had been mostly out of the action until the end, he had been out there long enough to know how dangerous it was. To be honest, it was almost a miracle that the ship had managed to get out without much damage from everything that had happened. Despite their tendency to be in the worse situations ever, they did have their fair share of good fortune.

Well, at least it was all over with now. Fortunately not too many people got hurt in this, but there was still a fair amount of work to be done. Being one of the more experienced doctors in the crew, Isshin had taken up the task of patching up the more seriously injured ones - such as one Kiryuu Karou, who he supposed had woken up by now.

Stepping into the infirmary proper, the man made his way towards where she was, a smile on his face as he greeted the girl. "Hello, Karou-chan. Are you awake yet?"

There was a pause as the armband filled up before deflating with a hiss, and Isshin read the reading that was on the scale - 109/64. That seemed pretty normal enough, if memory served him right. It had been a while since he last took charge of any children, after all...

Taking the armband off Kaoru, the man then kept the device to the side and picked up his stethoscope properly. "Back as straight as you can now, Kaoru-chan, and breathe when I tell you to."

Kaoru nodded and took a slow breath, drawing herself up and supporting herself with her arms again. "Okay." For once, she wasn't asking questions. She must at least have known what a physical examination was.

Isshin waited patiently for the girl to push herself up, a sympathetic grimace at her injury - it really was kind of bad for someone of her age and stature - and only moved once she was properly up. The lack of questions was surprising, but the man wasn't going to ask if the girl didn't say anything. That was her own things, after all, and not his; contrary to popular belief, Isshin actually did respect people's privacy. It was only his son(s) (and Ryuuken) that he blatantly ignored it, because that was just how he rolled.

Placing the hearing end of the stethoscope onto her chest, the doctor gave her a smile and spoke. "Alright now, take in slow, deep breaths, and try to keep them constant."

That made sense. She breathed slowly, not even trying to talk, since that would mess up the observations. Other lab escapees would probably be having unpleasant flashbacks, wouldn't they? But then, she hadn't escaped. She'd just left without permission. The difference was in what she did afterward.

Hmm, nothing out of the ordinary there. Making sure that all was well, Isshin withdrew and took out the stethoscope, placing it at the side to take it back with him later.

"You seem pretty fine, but you're staying here to rest up just in case," the man stated as he picked up the clipboard once more and scribbled down a few more things onto it. "Any dizziness, unexplainable pain or anything else you feel that isn't right?"

"It hurts," Kaoru replied, flatly as always. "That's expected from being stabbed by a monster. I also bled through the bandages at one point, but they've been fine since they were changed out. Otherwise, I don't know." She thought for a moment. "People keep coming to see me. Do they really care so much about what other people are doing?"

Isshin nodded as he took in the girl's words, scribbling them in bullet points on the clipboard. Nothing off there, at least, though he really should have paid more attention to changing the bandages regularly. At least someone else did it already...

He stopped in his train of thoughts when Kaoru spoke up again, and the man perked up to look at her. "Why, of course? You did take everyone by surprise when you punched that sky pig, after all. I'm sure they're all hoping that you'd be fine." Really, who in Reial would even do that, even Isshin himself had second thoughts about doing such things.

"I just did what came to mind," Kaoru said. "We were supposed to kill it, so I attacked it. Are they just making fun of me for getting hit as well?"

The man raised an eyebrow at that strange question at the end, but quickly got over it nevertheless and shook his head. "No, nothing like that at all - if anything, I'd say we're more impressed that you actually took one of them headon! Not a lot of people actually dare to do that, you know."

Or rather, almost nobody.

"Like I said," Kaoru replied, "I just did what came to mind. What about you? You weren't fighting out there. Where were you?"

"I was down at the brig," the doctor replied. "I had to do a few things down there."

And by that, he was of course referring to taking care of the poor thing that was caged down there. At least now it was treated better now after having helped with the Sky Pigs at the end.

"The brig?" She tilted her head. "That's where we put prisoners, isn't it?" One would think that, having been on this ship for eight months now, she would know this... Maybe she just didn't care enough.

Well, Isshin really didn't mind too much - the brig was hardly so ever used after all nowadays, and personally the man would prefer it that way.

Thus smiling, the man nodded in affirmation. "Yes, that's right. You know how we had that stowaway sometime back? Its there now, and I was there to take care of it." That being a rather relative term, of course - Isshin had mainly just tried to keep it occupied.

"Oh. The little monster." She tilted her head to the side. "Did you find out what it was yet?"

"Not yet, I'm afraid," he replied, but shrugged and smiled still nevertheless. "But its currently kept well, so it won't be causing trouble anytime soon."
