Within hours of getting back with Nena and Justin flyfrommyself January 9 2010, 19:51:52 UTC
Yami had dropped off Nena, Dr. Ishida, and the new guy, Justin, and turned around to fly back out almost immediately, another pilot and one of the senior mechanics now his passengers to go bring back the Silvana's plane. It was really the only other thing Yami could do.

With the...borrowed plane now back in the hanger where it belonged and him having foisted off his shift in the engine room to deal with this to begin with, Yami found himself with nothing to do but worry about his crewmate. With that in mind, his steps turned to the infirmary, where he spotted Justin plastered to a wall watching Dr. Ishida ministering to Nena.

Yami slid up beside the young man, eyes on doctor and patient. "Any news?"

"She should be all right in a few days. Just exhausted, cold, hungry, all that." he answered immediately, having been turning this information over in his head for the last few hours. He had nothing to do except worry. He wished he'd thought to bring a book. "Now that we got her back here, the danger is largely past."

"Physically, at least." he added reluctantly. Nena's mental state was a whole other issue. "Do you... have any idea what she was talking about?"

Watson had been alarmed at the state of their pilot when Yami and brought her in. Ishida was already on the job, however, and Watson easily relegated himself to the menial task of assisting the elder doctor tend to the girl. Starvation and hypothermia were not easily reversed by any means, but the man was more than a capable doctor. Eventually, he had deemed himself useless to the scene and made his exit to the other side of the infirmary, where Yami and a stranger was.

Yami started to respond when movement out of the corner of his eye caught his attention. He turned to see John approaching and gave him a grin, more reserved than his normal one. The situation was serious, so his demeanor was more businesslike. "Dr. W," he murmured by way of greeting. "Justin, this is another of our esteemed doctors, John W. Doctor, this is Justin..." His voice trailed off, realizing he'd not gotten the young man's last name . . . nor was he sure he should bring attention to that by outright asking now. After all, John had never given his that Yami was aware of, and he himself "didn't have one."

He would get back to Justin's question in a moment, but first, introductions were only polite.

The door to the infirmary slammed melodramatically open, and a mostly bald girl with a cigarette dangling from her lips staggered awkwardly in. A floor-length army coat that was at least three sizes too big for her hid most of her body from view, but by the look of agony on her face, she was either in a lot of pain or a very bad actress.

Staring straight at the only other person in the room, she demanded, "Oi! You the doctor on this bloody ship? I've had a bit of an accident involving a beer bottle, some gun oil, and my naughty bits, and need t'have it looked at."

The noise had Justin off the bed and flattened against the nearest wall in a second, with a distinctly panicked expression on his face as he glanced around the room. Had he dozed off?... It looked like both of the doctors were away, he had no idea who this woman was, and- what was he supposed to do?

"No, I'm just..." - he only got that far into his answer before the rest of her words caught up with him. An accident involving what??

She did look like she was in a lot of pain, though, and Justin didn't have it in him to ignore that. After a moment to get his bearings, he managed some semblance of calm. "But - I could take a look, if you want? I'm not sure when the doctors will be back."

Yep. Just use your imagination... the_tank_girl January 11 2010, 06:22:42 UTC
Rolling her eyes and dropping the look of pain, Tank Girl reached down under the coat. Where she'd been hiding the lead pipe that her hand came back holding was anybody's guess. It was easily the length of one of her legs, and a good three inches in diameter.

"Ace! Then I won't have to use this on you," she laughed, experimentally aiming the pipe at the side of Justin's head and pretending to take a swing. "If you were a doctor, you'd be out cold on the floor, and I'd have your keys off your belt as quick as that. But since you ain't gonna rat me out, I think I'll have myself a look-see at that cabinet over there." And there, on the top shelf, was the large bottle of extremely potent opiate that the gunner was after. Taking a long drag on her cigarette, she blew Justin a kiss, then aimed the pipe at one of the cabinet's glass doors. "I'll just do what a girl's gotta do, and get it myself."

He should have realized the woman was acting - wasn't that kind of thing his job? - but she was keeping him too off-balance for his mind to catch up with anything that was going on. Still not sure what she was talking about, Justin froze at the sight of the weapon, not even breathing for a few moments - and then tried to convince himself the reason he didn't duck was that he'd known she was only playing around. (it wasn't.)

Next time someone came in, he'd just hide under the bed, he promised himself.

Glad to finally have her attention turned elsewhere when she started looking at the cabinets, the boy just stayed where he was. Quietly and trying to look as harmless as possible. At least her monologue didn't seem to require any response. And as for "ratting her out" - somehow he didn't think the doctors would need his help figuring out the culprit.

When Agrias heard that Nena and Yami had returned to the Silvana, she dropped everything she was doing to go see them. This was an important manner and she needed to get information about what happened and why, and of course it would be up to her to dish out an appropriate punishment.

She headed down the halls and towards the infirmary - this was the least enjoyable part of her job. Discipline is never fun, but back when she was a knight, it was required to keep an orderly and reliable force, and Agrias had found that running an airship crew was not that much different.

"Nena, may I-" she cut herself off when she saw the stranger in the room. She paused and studied Justin. She did not recognize the young man, and wondered who he was. Well, he seemed harmless, as he wasn't being intrusive or causing trouble. Nena could wait, this stranger would be attended to first. "How rude of me. Hello, young man. I am Agrias Oaks, first mate of the Silvana. May I ask your name?"

The times Justin had been intrusive or caused trouble since he was about five years old could be counted on the fingers of one hand, and he certainly wasn't going to act any different on the Silvana of all places. Standing quietly with his back to a wall, he waited as the doctors took care of Nena, ready to help if needed, but realizing it was best not to get in their way or distract them with unnecessary questions. Even if he was fairly sure they were no longer dealing with anything life-threatening ( ... )

"I see," Agrias said. She wasn't aware that Nena had fallen ill. Then speaking to her definitely had to wait. Instead, Agrias could now entertain their new guest instead. While Justin was certainly a surprise, he was not unwelcome. If he had flown in with Nena and Yami, then he must have played a part in her return. "You are very welcome on our ship, then."

She pulled up an empty chair and took a seat. If she couldn't speak to Nena, then someone else might be able to help fill in the details.

"Do you mind if I ask you a few questions, then?"

"Thank you." The young man sounded a bit disconcerted - he was not sure why the First Mate felt she needed to be polite to him. It wasn't something he was used to from anyone in power, to say the least. But he'd met much stranger people over the last month, and was getting used to it.

He sat down on one of the empty beds, facing her. "Of course." The answer was automatic - even when explicitly asked for agreement, Justin didn't feel like he had a choice. Which was fine. Simply the way things worked.

Hopefully she wouldn't mind him being here.
