Re: Have Another Rich Kid From Bellcius. why_halo_there January 9 2010, 08:16:10 UTC
The food had better smell good. Hikari slaved away for the better part of the day preparing for this meal. Thankfully, she wasn't completely alone; while she was the only official cook in the kitchens, others from the ship had come to help out. Still, it just wasn't the same without Shinjiro in there to lend a hand ( ... )

Rufus made a dismissive gesture at Hikari's apology. "No, you're quite right. New experiences are a good way of gaining new perspectives on things. As for my favorite city..." He paused for a moment, considering the question. "...I think I may have to be unoriginal and say Bellcius. While I think Kropmork is probably the most interesting place I've visited, I'd rather not live there. Bellcius may be more predictable, but it has almost anything a person could want to live."

"I guess," Luke replied with a shrug. At least it wasn't the same bedroom and the same people and the same monotony... right?

Luke waited until there was a pause in the conversation before he asked questions. Bellcius, huh? That was almost disappointing.

"How was this Kropmork place interesting? And if Bellcius has got everything, then why would people even bother traveling around? For that matter, how come other cities don't follow Bellcius' example if it's like that?"

"Well, just because it has everything Mr. Shinra needs, that doesn't mean it has everything," she replied. "Each place is a little different, you know - sometimes it's just fun to see what's there, even if you don't need to."

"Kropmork's other island is home to some fairly extensive mana crystal mines. The prospect of power like that tends to draw people with a great deal of curiosity and not much common sense to back it up - I think the university wizards are the worst of the bunch," he explained to Luke. "As for Bellcius - it doesn't have space for all of factories needed for industrial production, nor is it situated particularly close to the necessary resources. It's also rather expensive to live well there." Not that a son of the Fabres would notice the expenses - even the Shinras were comfortably upper class. But unlike many of his rank, he wasn't blind to what happened in the city around him - the rich might be the big movers and shakers, but get enough of the lower classes together, and they could still be a forced to be reckoned with.
