The hangar deck, Roy had learned, was a nice place to unwind and kick around whenever he wanted to be alone. His room had sort of become an impromptu gathering place for any soldier who felt like he or she had needed company as of late, and given recent events, he really did not feel up to playing Daddy or Big Brother to whoever dropped in.

The alchemist slipped into the hangar with a canister of alcohol at hand and a pack of cigarettes in the other, still spiffily decked out in uniform but looking like he needed a break.

Roy took another drag from his cigarette before answering.

"Commander Edgeworth is the only one we've named so far, and that's mostly because we don't have a choice."

He decided not to mention Itou. That was more of a personal hunch on his part, and he had no way of backing it up beyond what he had observed of the man.

With a slam, he shut the hatch and wiped his hands off with a towel. "I suppose the investigation will slow down if Commander Edgeworth gives a solid alibi."

Sephiroth then jumped onto the wing and sat there.

"More like, stop dead in its tracks."

Roy let out the next drag in a sigh.

"Yes, that's correct," Sephiroth sighed, leaning back on his hands. "Are you sure there is nothing else to look into?"

"Well, I COULD look into each and every person that might have something against Kristoph."

Roy was NOT looking forward to that.

"May be the only thing you can do, I suppose," He shrugged. "Though limiting it to those on the ship would probably make it easier for now."

"Marginally."

Roy leaned all the way back, staring up at the ceiling.

"Did you ever deal with something like this before, sir?"

"In a way, yes," Sephiroth said.

Not exactly like it, no, but in Claiborne there hadn't been reason to try a kill a superior officer. And his missions were solo most of the time. If anyone wanted to kill him, they would have to have a lot of luck trying. Nonetheless, something similar did happen.

"The only difference was that we knew who it was. The problem was finding him."

"And you did, I reckon."

"No, we didn't," Sephiroth shook his head. "Never have. We find clues, once in a while, but nothing more. He actually has yet to kill a superior officer, he caused a mass desertion among the lower ranks."

Sephiroth leaned his elbows on his knees. "He's just like me. Glowing eyes, mako and mana inside his body, and one of the best soldiers from that program. He's a hard man to kill and even harder to find."

"Were the two of you close?"

Call it another gut feeling.

"At this point, I don't know," Sephiroth said.

Roy eyed the other man from over his canister as he took a swig.

"I'm sorry to hear that."

And he wasn't lying. If, let's say, a close friend like Hughes had betrayed the military - betrayed him - that way, the alchemist would not have known what to do, or how to feel.

Sephiroth took a long breath in and let it out through his nose. "So am I."

He was surprised that he even said as much as he did, but he really couldn't help it when Roy was being amicable. Despite his earlier assumption that he was not privy to information regarding Edgeworth, he was still one of the more respectable people on this crew so far.

A long pause.

"Here's the point where I offer you a drink or a cigarette, sir, but seeing as you didn't seem interested before..."
