The second he had heard the message from Nikolai, Ness rushed to the hangar. Watanuki in critical condition? What in Reial had happened to him? But now wasn't the time to be asking questions. Now was the time to do what he could to save him.

Ness arrived at the hangar just as Ichigo's plane pulled in. It was then Ness began to worry. What if it was too late to save Watanuki? No, he couldn't think like that. Watanuki was going to be fine. He had to believe in that. He told himself over and over that everything was going to be okay. He'd make sure of it.

"Ichigo!" Ness called, running up to the pilot. "Over here!"

Hanatarou was also on his way, and he was carrying a stretcher. His mind was whirling with a million and one things he needed to remember--he hadn't treated a critical wound in so long that he was afraid he'd have forgotten something important.

He lay the stretcher on the ground, and called out to Ichigo: "Here, get him on the stretcher!"

There was blood and grime on Ichigo's hands and chest (not his blood, that was the worst part) but he didn't seem to notice as he slid his arms under Watanuki's body and lifted it with surprising care. He couldn't climb down, but he could hand Watanuki down to Ness. "Ness, take him!" he called, crouching down on the plane's wing and carefully sliding him into the young doctor's hands. As he did so, Ichigo couldn't help but notice how pale Watanuki's skin was. His mis-matched eyes were closed, and all Ichigo could smell was the blood that was seeping through the bandages he'd hastily tied around Watanuki's chest. Dammit, what were you THINKING? Watanuki's chest didn't rise and fall. The breathing was far too shallow for that. He looked dead already.

Ichigo didn't know if he could ever forgive himself if those breaths stopped coming. Dammit, this wasn't how it was supposed to go....! People weren't supposed to die protecting him--!

Ness didn't know what condition he expected Watanuki to be in, but this was far worse than anything he could have imagined. As carefully and as quickly as he could, he carried Watanuki over to the stretcher and lay him down on it. They had to get him over to the infirmary as soon as possible.

Please, be all right. Ness silently begged. Watanuki did not deserve to have this happen to him.

Ness took one end of the stretcher. "He's on, let's go!" He yelled.
