Komachi, too focussed on trying to work out how many cookies she could afford if she also bought a strawberry lollipop, blinked and gave a little squeak of surprise at the sudden unfamiliar voice beside her.

"Uh...I'm deciding," she said, cautiously, looking him up and down - you weren't supposed to talk to strangers, but he looked like a nice enough person, and if he wasn't, she could always kick him and run away. "What's 'madamasell', mister?"

Komachi suppressed a giggle at the bow - she thought she liked this guy, he was...different. She tried to match it with an awkward little curtsey as she introduced herself. "Hello, then, Francis, I'm Komachi!"

She filed away the 'mademoiselle' for future reference - apparently it meant the same as 'miss', but it was prettier, and nicer to say, so she thought she might use it instead next time the occasion arose.

"For your mother?" She looked around at the stalls to either side of them, a thoughtful expression on her face. "Well, if I was your mother I'd want one of the big rainbow lollies, but I don't think grownups like things like that, do they? There's a man further down that way with chocolate animals, does your mother like chocolate?"
