She noticed Ginoki was not carrying his script. Well, he must be really confidant with his lines.
"Okay," she said. "Let's try the scene in act IV where the Steel Samurai confronts the Evil Magistrate."

He looked up at Gintoki with that "yeah, you're going to fail" grin of his.

Which was a problem, because it was the Pink Princess that everyone had encouraged Jean to audition for. Essentially, she would be going into this audition blind. But hey, there had been plenty of action and fighting in the series, and Jean was good at that! Maybe she would do well, regardless.
At Hughes' announcement, Jean sat up straight at full attention, waiting for him to direct the auditions.

She still wasn't sure which part she was going to try out for -- she'd thought about the Pink Princess, back when they'd first been talking about doing the play, but then Zeetha had suggested it to Jean and oh, she was so perfect for it that Giselle was determined to see that she got it! She'd shown up as much to cheer everyone on as to try out, after all, and besides -- the Pink Princess might need a handmaiden!
So while Hughes made his announcements, she ran through the list of characters in her mind, weighing the pros and cons of each one. That one had a lovely costume, but this one had a much better opportunity for a spontaneous dance number...

He poked his head in just as Hughes started speaking into the megaphone... that wasn't really a megaphone at all. Man, this was scary. Even if these were people he already knew, he still felt nervous. He took a seat near the back, considering that if he needed to get out of there, he could quickly.

He hadn't exactly been practicing in preparation of this audition. One reason being lack of materials to read off of, and another being the fact that he just wasn't a big study-er to begin with. And he didn't really physically fit the part of the lead, no matter how hard he tried (a five-foot-four hero samurai would be more likely to receive chortles of laughter rather than awe). No, he'd have to rely solely on his charisma and personality if he was going to impress the 'judges'.
He'd also brought his own wooden practice sword with him, rather than using one of the stage props offered. It looked as though he might not've been the only one to do so, either. But at least it showed (he hoped) a serious amount of dedication.

He had said he was going to audition, Riku stewed, still uneasy with the event he had been so easily coerced into participating in. Of course he didn't quite realize that, and aside from the uncomfortable tension creeping through him he managed to continue with the belief that auditioning for the play had been entirely his idea. And to his credit the role he had selected was his own idea, however misguided it may have been.
"He'd better be here," he hissed quietly from between his clenched teeth as he turned his attention to the stage and the strange bandanna-ed man seemingly in charge. His narrowed eyes passed over both critically before stopping at a spiky outcropping of brown hair that seemed to bob eagerly from beside the stage. Removing his wooden sword from his belt, Riku weaved his way towards his prey stealthily before delivering a gentle 'Fancy-meeting-you-here' poke to Sora's rib.

"You're auditioning for the Evil Magistrate, right?" he asked Riku, remembering his name and general description from the files, and Riku's conversation with Zeetha over the network. The boatswain turned to Sora and smiled warmly at the smaller kid. "How about you, are you trying out for the Steel Samurai?" To Hughes' credit, he didn't at all look doubtful that Sora was going to audition for the part.
"Here!" he said cheerfully, handing them copies of their script. It was a short scene outlining a fight scene between the Steel Samurai and the Evil Magistrate. "You can practice at the side before you go on stage, if you like!"
