'And a cup of strong tea,' he added to himself, walking into a cafe that he happened to pass by. Placing his order, he sat down at the only table that was left unoccupied. The marketplace was crowded and as soon as Near had his fill of afternoon tea, he would gratefully return to the ship.
He was tinkering with one of the plane models he had purchased when he noticed a tall man walking (or rather limping) into the cafe. Near nodded when the man asked him if they could share tables and replied in an equally polite tone ,"Not at all, sir."
The boy did wonder why the man called him 'sir'. Surely he did not look that elderly.

The boy did not seem like one to be interested in small talk, but Watson wanted to at least introduce themselves to each other, if they were to share a table for the afternoon.
"I am Dr. John W.," he said politely. "May I have the pleasure of knowing your name, young man?"

The man did look and act like a doctor. It was a pleasant change from the various interesting personalities that he met on board the Fiertia, some of which were far from polite. Many were helpful and relatively civil, but some others ranged from being loud mouthed and vulgar to being downright destructive.
Near remained quiet, wondering if Watari looked like this when he was younger.

Near to him did not seem much interested in small talk, so Watson was content to spend his first few minutes seated there doing nothing but sip his drink and gaze out of the window.
Eventually, however, he exhausted his interest in watching people walk around outside (and making observations the way Holmes did, and failing entirely) and curiously focused on Near's side of the table.
"Say," the doctor spoke up, "That seems rather complicated, does it not?"
