Characters: Abe Takaya, Mihashi Ren Content: Mihashi's in the Fierta. Abe is surprised. Meeting of the ex-partners for the first time in a while. Setting: Hangar Time: Around noon Warnings: Nothing, really.
'Go straight...big doors...' He kept going through the last directions he was given in his head. But he couldn't concentrate with the excitement of meeting Abe in his mind. Eventhough they were simple directions...he still got lost. Though only slightly. "Uhh...there aren't any big doors here..." He looked down at his journal and sent Abe another message. "I-I, um...I think I turned somewhere...I wasn't supposed to..." He paused, thinking of what else to say. Something that wouldn't make Abe mad. "I'll go b-back! Hold on!" He ended the message before turning back around. He stopped quickly once he saw the doors Abe was talking about and almost ended up falling on his face. He took a pause to catch his breath before opening the door, peeking in nervously. "A-A...Abe-kun?"
Mihashi kept rubbing at his eyes with his free hand, trying to stop crying so Abe won't get mad at him again. "I'm s-sorry," he mumbled, sniffing again. He squeezed Abe's hand tighter, not wanting to let go. When he was finally able to look up at him again it was when he asked him if there was any way he could convince him to go home. "Ah!" He shook his head, a rather adorable, wide-eyed look on his face.
And that was that. Mihashi rarely defied him, but when he did, there was no changing his mind. Abe would just have to compromise. He squeezed Mihashi's hand back for a moment before letting go, turning to point at his plane.
"I'm going to let you stay, but the moment trouble happens, you're going back home. Even if I have to drag you there. Understood?"
Mihashi smiled as Abe didn't argue anymore. He would let him stay...he had no idea how happy that made him. He was a bit disappointed when Abe let go of his hand, but he didn't need to hold it anymore. His hands felt very warm. As Abe pointed to his plane Mihashi smiled and automatically went over to it. "Uwah...this brings back memories..." He walked around the plane, looking it over once more. He didn't even here the next thing Abe said. "May I...l-look at the engine?"
Abe frowned a little when Mihashi ignored his warning, and shook his head. "Did you even hear what I said? If things get messy, I'm taking you straight home. Understand?" Hopefully, by the time that happened he would have enough money to supply the trip back.
Still, Mihashi was the mechanic between the two of them and he could still understand his eagerness to check the engines out.
"Ehh?" Mihashi peeked around the plane and blinked as he looked to Abe. "Taking me home? B-But...I don't wanna go home..." He looked down shyly. "I...m-m-might if you come b-back with me..." He started glancing around nervously like he usually did. But then his eyes landed on Abe's plane again and he touched at the hatch to the engine. "M-M-May I look...?"
"I'm taking you back if things get dangerous, and I'm not staying there," he said with finality, brooking no argument. No amount of crying would change his mind. But he did feel a little bad for taking that measure against Mihashi, so to alleviate it a little, he let the other boy as he wanted. "Go ahead, take a look."
Mihashi frowned when Abe said he wasn't going back with him. "I-I-If you're not coming b-b-back, too...then...I'm n-not going." He was trying to stand up to him, but his stuttering wasn't helping. As usual. But when Abe told him he could take a look at the engine he turned away from him to open the engine's hatch and look inside. "U-Um...Abe-kun? Could I b-b-borrow...some tools?"
He only frowned again and handed Mihashi the tools, figuring that it would be better to reign his temper in for now. When the time came down to it, he'd just drag Mihashi off if he had to. There were benefits to having a larger body than his mechanic.
"I tried maintaining the engine on my own, but it might be a little dirty after the attack." This place was dusty.
Mihashi took the tools with a forced smile as they were handed to him. He leaned forward was on his tip toes to get a closer look at everything. After only a moment he started to work, tightening what needed to be tightened, cleaning off what needed to be cleaned, and taking off and putting back a few things. He made quick work of his tune-up and after not even half an hour he crawled back out with grease and oil on him just from that little bit of work. He wiped the sweat from his fore head, smearing more oil and grease. "Uwah...it's been a while..." He closed the hatch then patted the plane with a true smile this time.
He nodded approvingly and offered Mihashi a smile. It was nice to have his bird properly taken cared of, after a long time of doing it himself. He was good at the job, but very few people could match Mihashi.
"You're dirty," he muttered as he tossed a fairly clean towel in Mihashi's direction, bending down to scoop the various plane parts he had been examining before Mihashi had come around.
Mihashi smiled back shyly before putting the tools away. He then looked to Abe right before he threw the towel to him, and it ended up hitting him in the face. "Uwagh!" He stumbled back a bit and ended up hitting his back on the wing of the plane. "Eh!" He jumped forward and finally took the towel off of his face, blushing in embarrassment at his own fumbling. "Ah, th-thank you," he stuttered before wiping his face. He was careful to not get anything in his eyes.
Abe should be used to those kinds of antics but he unfortunately wasn't, and long years of fretting, nagging and worrying for the other boy made his head snap up to see if Mihashi was all right.
It appeared that he was... "Hm," he mumbled to himself before he could start yelling again and turned back to what he was doing. "What assignment were you given?"
Mihashi peeked out from under the towel after he was done wiping off his face. "Ehh?" He blinked at Abe's question and tilted his head. "Oh, well...th-the engine room." He blinked once again; he thought he already told him he was assigned to the engine room. Perhaps it just slipped his mind. "But I d-don't know the w-way there...that's why I c-c-came to you." He looked down with an embarrassed blush. "I haven't b-been around the ship much..."
"I know you're supposed to work in the engine room," he answered crossly, patience short as always. "What I mean is, what are they making you do? Maintain or create stuff? Modifications?"
How long had Mihashi been there without him knowing, anyway... "I can show you around, but you might get lost. I'll draw you a map later."
"O-Oh..." Mihashi kept the towel over his head, feeling rather stupid and afraid Abe might really yell at him again. "S-S-So far just maintaining...b-but I suppose I can d-d-do some modifications. If th-the captain wanted me to." He tried to walk back towards Abe but with the towel over his head he couldn't see anything. Which made him almost trip several times. Eventually he got to Abe, though at the last leg of his trek he tripped once more and ended up falling onto Abe, into his arms. "Ehh!"
