Station 7--Reno Beat Jenka electro_phoenix April 6 2009, 03:01:55 UTC
Ah, storms. Not Reno's favorite type of weather to be caught out it, but hey, it was a job.

Suited up in that stupid rubber get up, Reno stood by the net, waiting.

"You two ready, yo?"

"FUCK!" Beat yelped, grabbing ahold of the pulley crank and fighting to keep it still. His muscles strained, bulging with the effort, but damn the wind was strong! The powder monkey dug his heels in, teeth gritted and held on.

Reno echoed Beat's sentiments and held on as tight as he could.

Unfortunately, being drug-sickly-skinny had it's downsides, and Reno nearly blew away with the net. "Fuck shit fuck shit fuck shit fuck!" He scrambled for purchase, muttering the swear words over and over again until he finally managed to stay on deck and hold onto the net.

"Why the hell aren't we tied down?"

Jenka was heavy enough to hold the net down, but Reno had a good point - the next time could be worse. Having the net pull all three of them into the storm like a kite wouldn't be good for them or the ship. Although she did feel tempted, now that she thought about the idea...

"Goot qvestion!" The Jäger wrapped the rope around her hand to keep a better hold, and grabbed on to a solid-looking section of the railing with her other hand. She would probably be able to hold on to both sides one-handed whatever the storm threw at them. The position made letting out the rope rather painful, and pulling it in nearly impossible, but she hoped they could deal with that when the wind lessened a bit.

"Yoooooo!! Reno! You thin' me an' Jenka coul' keep da net down why ya tie us off?!" Beat screamed over the wind. Jenka was right, anther good gust and they could all go over. But sad to say, right now Reno was light-weight enough to not really be much help. Best to let him do what he was good at: running around like a hyped up chipmunk.

"We gotta do this shit 'fore the next gust!!"

"Might as well give it a shot!" Had he known that Beat was calling him a chipmunk, Reno probably would've let the kid fly off.

Reno waited until the wind was slightly less wild before letting go of his half of the net and scurrying over to Jenka. He tied the rope around her waist and tightened the other end around part of the ship (a pole or something, he wasn't sure), leaving enough slack so she wouldn't be torn in half if the rope suddenly went taut. "That's one!"

He had less time to tie Beat off, but thankfully the moose was close enough to the mast to be tied off quickly. Reno was back at his side and tying himself to a pile of wooden boxes (filled with cannonballs, he figured) before the next gust picked up.

Oh, she wasn't planning on being dragged away any time soon, now that she had a hold on something. The Jäger glared at Beat for asking such a stupid question. Still, it was convenient to be tied down. Hopefully the rope was strong enough to hold.

She started pulling the net in closer - it seemed like most of the lightning was right around the ship now. Or maybe it only looked that way.

Unlike Jenka, Beat was ecstatic to be tied. He and Reno simply weren't as strong as the Jagerwoman. And he doubted fate would let him survive a SECOND fall from an airship. Though he didn't notice the glare, he was too distracted by the storm and the crashing thunder. Now he was VERY glad that he had his goggles.

Reno shared Beat's sentiment about the googles as he worked with the other two to keep the net under control. "See anything yet?"

"Vot hyu mean, anytink? Ve gots plenty ov lightnink right here!" Jenka's eyes hurt. Jäger night-vision did have its downsides. She could still see the net, just barely, and try steering it in the right direction.

Beat snorted at Jenka's reply, but it was swept away by the storm. And probably for the best, he really didn't want to get his ass kicked after this.

But it WAS a distraction, one that made him miss a gust that almsot jerked the net from his grip, making his flounder a little. "Bwaaaaa!!"

"Stop goofing off!" Reno called. "Or at least keep the freak outs to a minimum, yo!" He was managing it.

Jenka was ignoring the talking. It wasn't helping.

Feeling the increased tension on the rope as Beat was struggling with his side, she pulled in more to compensate and hopefully smooth out the forming tangle.

It didn't take long for Beat to un-tangle and fluster himself, but it was enough to make the net not quite as taunt as it should have been. But that was fixable enough. He tugged on his end just like Jenka, trying to get things back under control. That last thing they needed was to have it lax when the next bolt hit.

"Sorry!!"

Reno shook his head. Why was he stuck with the kid again?

Oh well, at least it wasn't Kambei.

He pulled the net tighter, waiting anxiously for the next bolt and praying it didn't hit him.

Even with the three of them doing their best, the chaotic gusts of wind were flinging the net around too rapidly to let it spread out. If anything, the tangle was getting worse. Jenka swore. "Red fire! Ve better get it down here und fix it before it'z a pretzel!" She started taking in her end of the rope without waiting for an answer, not sure the other two could even hear her over the storm.
