"Ah, Doctor W," Holmes cried from inside the room. "Come in, come in! Do ignore the clutter; I assure you, I shall put everything back in order when I am finished. I was searching for a certain document, you see, one which might hold the key to solving this rather interesting problem." Papers were scattered all over a corner of the room, and one sheet was laid out on the desk. Holmes himself was bent over that same desk, which also housed a tangle of chemistry paraphenalia and a beaker that rested above a burner. Carefully, drop by drop, Holmes added a chemical to whatever solution was in the beaker, holding the pipette delicately between his thumb and forefinger. He would get to their arrangement as soon as ( ... )

He greeted Holmes as he let himself in, eager to see what the room looked like enough to not mind what his future-roommate was doing on the desk for the moment. It was a sizable common room, more comfortably furnished than what Watson could have expected from a ship like the Silvana, and it was obvious to him from the moment he stepped in that he would enjoy his stay there more than his own quarters despite Holmes' apparent untidiness. Lucky you -- Jude Law makes an amazing Watson. RDJ, however..... justdeduceit April 3 2009, 21:22:08 UTC
"You do not mind the smell of strong tobacco, do you?" Holmes inquired briskly, still holding the tongs in his hand. This was something Watson should have noticed already; although Holmes did not allow the air in the common room to become too polluted and smoky, always careful to keep it ventilated, the smell itself would remain far longer.

He made careful note of the other man's expression -- good, it seemed these quarters suited the doctor quite nicely.

Watson shook his head. "No, I also indulge in the vice, myself." He had noticed the smell, but he was fairly used to it that his attention had glossed over the detail. He did hope that Holmes didn't take to tobacco when doing his chemistry experiments, though the man seemed careful enough for Watson to overly concern himself about it.

The doctor tilted his head in the direction of the beaker, and asked, politely: "Did you find something interesting?"
