At first glance this square appears to be the same as all the rest. The dense jungles continues in the squarem making it nearly impossible to travel without forcing your way through the thick and heavy branches that hang from above. but it is not an impossible task ( Read more... )

[From here.]

By the time they entered the dense forest Sync was already prepared to trek through the thick brush for what felt like the third time that day. Even if most of the sunlight was caught near the treetops, a few streaks of light still managed to penetrate its way to the ground, leaving the teen to wonder exactly how long they've been at this.

Of course, their mission wasn't lost on him, and so he continued to keep an eye out for anything that resembled some trinket that was valuable enough for both the Pirates and BAF to go searching for. But as usual, he was met with no luck, leaving him frustrated beyond contempt.

"I wonder how much this treasure's worth." Sync murmured quietly before cursing out when his sleeve snagged a twig, stopping for a moment to tug it loose without ruining his uniform.

Though Arietta didn't say it outright, the treasure was worth about nothing to her. It wasn't really anything that would benefit her. She was only out her for Sync after all.

She had not missed that remark. "I'm sure we'll find it, or someone will." Arietta tried to sound hopeful to cheer him up, but even she had her doubts about that statement. They had been wandering for a while now with no luck. Those old ruins they had come upon before had been the most promising so far.

Since then they had had very little luck, and Arietta expected that to continue until they were finally allowed to call it a day, if even that. Were they expected to stay out here over night? She could probably manage, she thought, but would Sync be ok? As much as she admired his strength, he was still very much a human and humans were not used to fending for themselves in the wild. She found herself looking at him with her usual worried expression, and quickly turned aside to hide it.

"I'd rather it be us than anyone else." Sync didn't even trust that Doujima woman to handle it on her own, not when she still had that four-eyed fool with her to say the least. But as with many things in his life, if something was out of sight it was out of mind. He didn't really care much for her anyway.

If only the jungle had been a little thinner, then at least they could've mowed down the island much quicker than the snail's pace they were going right now. It was a good thing they caught that lake earlier, because the humidity was anything but helpful, making his clothes stick to his skin until it slowly peeled away whenever he pulled at his uniform.

As appreciative as Arietta's worry may have been to any one else, Sync was too stubborn to admit his faults out in the open air. He would do what he had to to survive, and he'd been through enough tight spaces to know the bare essentials.

Further they traveled through the jungle, his arms lightly dotted with small scratches, but he paid no mind to them as they continued onward.

"I guess so..." Well, if Sync wanted the treasure, then Arietta wanted it too. She still didn't understand why it was so important though, but as long as it was important to Sync she would continue searching for it.

The denseness of the jungle made it hard to keep to his side as he had told her to do, and at times she would forge ahead and sometimes she would fall behind, depending on the thickness of the brush. The jungle was really making it hard to keep a steady pace. This concerned her, since it could mean that they could tire more easily. She would have to try and conserve her strength.

During one of the rare times when she managed to keep somewhat to his side, Arietta took a small glance at Sync. She bit her lip with worry as she saw the cuts he was accumulating. Sure, she had some too, but she didn't worry about herself like she worried about Sync. She hoped he would let her tend to them later.
