At first Ema was kind of freaked out by Garrus because HOLY SHIT AN ALIEN, but then she found out he is grumpy just like her! So now she has a bitch buddy yayyy. She also gets the feeling that Garrus is a lot more dedicated to JUSTICE than she is, or at least likes what he does more. Makes her wish she was doing what she wanted instead of just being a kind of mediocre detective. Ema did like telling Garrus about the noodle cart case though!

You are cool in Garrus' book because you're a detective! He wants to hear more wild n' crazy homicide cases. His work tends to be highly disturbing, so hearing about a dead noodle cart guy and panties in a tailpipe is refreshingly hilarious. On top of that, he thinks that Ema is a better person than he is for sticking with her job for her sister. While he wouldn't change his mind about quitting, he knows that he let his family down.
