Sure, travelling for an hour or more for specialist treatment to wherever (and it's totally common for us here in Geelong to hightail it up to Melbourne for a variety of things, too) but from some of the researching I've been doing, I have the idea this sort of treatment could have been arranged to be carried out locally after initial consultations with Steve's immunotherapist. It was bugging me, anyway, because I didn't feel it was a hundred percent accurate. Maybe it's something I'd only be bothered by, LOL, being pedantic for realism. But ... I like the concept way too much anyway, so it's going to stay regardless of how many degrees right or wrong I might be ( ... )

Depends how close PC is to a larger urban centre, though, as to where he'd end up going ... despite the fact that I think I've read pretty much what you have. Eh, I think now that I started overthinking this over a couple of days of editing and talked myself into a case of the stupid, and for the sake of my sanity, I might leave it there. (No, you don't want to see me get stupider, do you...?) Thank you for going to all that effort to ease my stupidity, though. :)

PC only has a population of about 7-8 thousand living people full time, although that number expands some with the summer tourist season. So, not Wagga-sized. :) (Can I point you up at the header, by any chance?)

I think you've talked me into about ten different ideas, lately. Which one do you want first? :D

Agh I have no clue how you do it - balancing dialogue and action in a long conversation like this, I mean. Any pointers?

Very typically Abe to be uncomfortable talking about something, and Steve's reaction makes me grin. I liked the progression of the talk too, it's very realistic in terms of how toward the end the participants try to inject some humor to relieve the tension.

I don't find it weird that he's going out of city to get treatment. (No idea why - my city is very well off in terms of medical treatment availability, there's an oncology center not five miles from my house and my PT treatment was uptown, and there're at least three hospitals in the city itself.)

I was wondering if the 'long conversation, not much happening' would bother people, since while all the Port Carmila 'verse stories have it, this one's the worst for it by a long shot. (You know, maybe I should become a script writer, since I really like writing dialogue...) But ... um ... I don't really know. Can I think about it and answer later? (In any case, thinking about that sort of thing is good for me, so that'll be lesson #2 for tonight...)

There has to be humour; we'd just about reached Steve's threshold for enduring serious conversation! :D

I think I might have been overly self-doubting with wondering about the accuracy of that one, since it's realistic enough that Dibbs wasn't batting an eyelid until that point. (And you know, on second thought, it's probably not a good idea for writers to point out holes in their work, is it? I'm supposed to make you believe things instead of the other way around...) I'm glad to know you didn't find it weird, though! :)

I don't think the travel for treatment is unreasonable. I grew up in a small northern Ontario town (pop. 6500) and I needed to travel to Toronto to go for specalized medical tests. That was an 8-10 hour car ride (depending on weather).

I also like the idea of them getting to know each other over car rides like this as they are essentially trapped with each other until they reach their destination.

Now you have me thinking of driving ten hours through snow/sleet, and I'm just shivering at the thought!

Of course. A couple of hours to talk ... or listen to talk-back radio! (The horror, the horror...) They'd get to know each other quite quickly, I think. Which is Abe's plan here in gaciously volunteering to be company...

Tell me there isn't a radio show about embroidery.

I spent this conversation reacting the way I would to things Steve said and then realizing that Abe and I are totally different. You'd have think I knew that already.

I wouldn't know, but given the large number of radio shows on tedious and/or strange subjects, I bet there probably is, somewhere...

*snorfles* I'm almost tempted to ask how you would have reacted, then, but yeah... :)

More than those that are, but not for too much longer, I hope! I want to be the zombie icon person! :D

(I found an icon maker on LJ who had posted six vampire/zombie related icons, so I was happy...)

I want one too, just because it would be awesome. Hell, I reckon I'd make that the focus piece and build my decor around it...
