haha, yeah, for you I'd definitely say that Backstreet is a good descriptive word for your icons :P
I can't say that I'm feeling the overlay in this though. It was a risky choice to use a word describing how you made it rather than what you can see in the final product and I think to keep the integrity of the community I'm going to have to say unless you change 'overlay' to something more visible I'm not going to be able to allow this.

May I ask for a suggestion? I used it because I abused the overlay mode quite a bit. (At one point every icon I made consisted of the base three times, once on overlay, once on screen, once on normal.)

Is duplicate still okay for me to use? I mean, you can't tell I duplicated the base without looking at the PSD.

I'm going to say the duplicate is okay, because I've noticed that's a common trend in your icons and governs your own personal style, whereas you've only put one layer on overlay here. It would've made more sense to include 'screen' because you've included two screen layers, but even then it's not really something that defines your own style because everybody uses screen layers

What about replacing overlay with "simple"? I tend to only include color layer and duped base layers unless required to use a texture/stock/text/etc.

I've had a look through your past entries on skilltester (I can't seem to find a graphics tag on your journal) and yes, I do see a lot of exclusion there! Your icons are simple and haha, your subject is pretty obvious (I know when it's you posting :P). I think the duplicate is difficult to see but it may be a part of your common process so that works too :D

I think, if you appreciate the advice (otherwise just go blah and ignore me - I wont be offended and I sure as hope that you won't be offended): tighten up your style using the help of these four words. Your icons are clean, simple, effective, and well lit! But they need some stylistic oomph because the range is quite large.

Anyhow, it's good to see someone who has taken this challenge and really tried to work with it :)
