Playing Sims 2 in Windows 8

Mar 07, 2013 07:58

I had to upgrade my monster computer to Windows 8 the other day and I have successfully installed about half of my EPs so far. Not only are they working, but they are working better than they were under XP, with one problem, and one problem only: the chemistry/lightning bolts have disappeared ( Read more... )

The way I got it to work was to very carefully install it from scratch in the proper order for all the EPs, starting with the Base Game, definitely without any CC. I tested it after each level. I patched after each level, although the only one that let me patch was Seasons, because that was the only one I installed from disc ( ... )

You might have to uninstall the EP and start over. I accidentally installed Apartment Life instead of Bon Voyage (which I ended up ordering online - it was $19.99 from EA and $60+ on Amazon) and the rest of the installations went without a hitch. One thing I made sure to do was run each EP, test it with a pre-made family, then test it with a CAS family, then exit, before installing the next EP. Part of that was to document my progress, since I feel like I'm probably like the third person in the universe to get TS2 to work in Windows 8, but whatever I did worked.

Another critically important thing is to always use the same desktop shortcut to start the game. Do not start the game from the menu. I don't care what the message on the screen tells you to do, start it from the desktop ( ... )

I would definitely recommend getting Bon Voyage. I broke down a while back and bought it over Amazon, was cheap there, and it's pretty addictive. I still need to get the apartment life ep though. xD

Thanks for the post on how to run on windows 8; I'm not looking to upgrade just yet but you never know, and this will be useful for when I do.

I'll probably buy it through Amazon. It seems like it's a lot cheaper that way and the extra time will allow me to have some fun getting used to Seasons. Thanks for the advice! :-)

Yw! I think it only ended up costing me like $12-$15 or so before shipping costs. I bought it used though but I made sure to read up on the sellers' ratings before I made the purchase. The brand new copies are actually selling for pretty high prices these days, at least that's how it looks to me.

Amazon ended up being outrageous ($60+)!!! It was actually cheaper to buy it through EA, so I did. I love the EP... it's rapidly becoming my favorite since Freetime! I even created one Sim for the sole purpose of digging up that entire lot that looks like a deserted cabin in Pleasantview. I'm not sure what I'm going to have him do with his archaeological finds... maybe charge visitors to look at them? The Traveller family is fun, too. I think the next family on my list for a vacation is the Pleasant family. They need one in the worst kind of way. I think some R&R might do wonders for the twins.

I don't know if this is happening to anyone else, but the compatibility tab doesn't show up for me when I want to change the patch. I used the troubleshoot compatibility option but only gave me windows 7, windows xp service pack 3, windows vista service pack 2 and something else (can't remember >.< sorry).

If you're using a digital download, the game might already be patched. I noticed this as well with my digital downloads.

I wanted to post some updates since my original post in March. My game still works fine and I've been running lots and lots of CC with almost no problems. Since the original post, I've purchased Bon Voyage and love it. I now have all the EPs and have also bought the starter pack for The Sims 3 as well (oh, it's not nearly as fun as TS2 and it will never replace what I consider the REAL game!) and everything works A-OK. I've also installed.... BODY SHOP!!!

Everything is combined in one happy location at https://www.facebook.com/TheSims2WithWindows8

A lot of people have brought up the issue of 64-bit operating systems and I do remember someone had posted a link to a discussion on a fix, but it seems to be gone now, so I wanted to post another link, since I did reference this blog as having the link on my Facebook page. There is a discussion for a fix for the Windows 7 64-bit OS workaround at http://sims2amyblue.wordpress.com/tutorials/tutorial-how-to-install-the-sims-2-on-windows-7/ - I would suggest utilizing this information in ( ... )
