Perhaps... It's different where you came from. Generally, people from the Greco-Roman area were clothed in fine linens draped around their bodies. Or nude. Of course, we can't have out members walk around like that so... the linens it is.

I think an idiot would eat the cake before the event. Or parcel it into inappropriate containers as a practical joke. Getting safely into a cake actually seems impressive to me.
