"Values" seems to be a term about what a particular group or demographic think is worthwhile for everyone to believe.

Mmmm ... that's not quite how I'd put it. Nor is it how the dictionary phrases it. From dictionary.com (mostly because I'm too tired to go drag out my Merriam-Webster):

10. values, Sociology. the ideals, customs, institutions, etc., of a society toward which the people of the group have an affective regard. These values may be positive, as cleanliness, freedom, or education, or negative, as cruelty, crime, or blasphemy.

11. Ethics. any object or quality desirable as a means or as an end in itself.
Fuzzy brain ... I am having trouble making a coherent post. The point is that it's not what you believe in (resurrections, mystic revelations, or little green men), it's what you think or feel is important to behave like, act upon, teach, acquire, or support. These values could be tangible (money) or intangible (freedom), and like the dictionary says -- either positive or negative ( ... )

Thanks for this reply, it really got me thinking. I don't know why I have such a problem wrapping my head around this issue. So would you say my list items are "values" or just things I value?
