Welcome to BATTLES 101! I am your professor this evening, so be sure to take notes!
So, battling. What's the goal?
You are training against each other and wild Pokémon to raise your Pokémon's levels! When your opponent is out of Pokémon that can fight, you have won the battle. Your Pokémon take up the win into their EXP counters, and the losing trainer hands over P100 for each Pokémon they used.
So, if the losing trainer had a full party of six Pokémon, they would hand over P600.
How do I battle?
You are allowed to control your Pokémon and play it out. All Pokémon will remember all the moves they are taught instead of being narrowed down to only four, so make those battles rough and rumble and have fun! Please try to keep it realistic though and don't have a level 5 Magikarp know Hyper Beam. It can't even learn that until it evolves!
You will need to research your Pokémon to see when it learns what moves and when it evolves. Trainers have the option of using their PokeDex to cancel the evolution if they don't want their Pokémon to evolve. (They just hit the B button... though they may not know this just yet c:)
How does leveling work here in Route?
If the opposing Pokémon you are battling, wild or trainer (it doesn't matter), is between these levels listed below, they get the EXP listed which counts as Points instead of Battles Won. They cannot be lost under any circumstances, but the Pokémon fighting must win in order to get the points.
1-4 = 2 EXP
5-9 = 4 EXP
10-14 = 6 EXP
15-19 = 8 EXP
20-24 = 10 EXP
25-29 = 12 EXP
30-34 = 14 EXP
35-39 = 16 EXP
40-44 = 18 EXP
45-49 = 20 EXP
50-54 = 22 EXP
55-59 = 24 EXP
60-64 = 26 EXP
65-69 = 28 EXP
70-74 = 30 EXP
75-79 = 32 EXP
80-84 = 34 EXP
85-89 = 36 EXP
90-94 = 38 EXP
95-99 = 40 EXP
100 = 42 EXP
Note : While training, if someone throws out, in example, a Magikarp, then returns it before doing any battling and throws out a different Pokémon, both are listed as having 'participated' so therefore, the Pokémon will split the EXP. So if the opponents are level 3, they will split 2 EXP and get 1 EXP each.
Leveling works the same as before, but with the EXP taking place of the BATTLES WON.
So if a level five Pokémon was being trained to go to level six, the math would be 6 x 3 = 18 exp points that need to be won before leveling up to level six. Any leftover points? Go towards the next level! :) Always multiply the next level by three to get the EXP requirement.
Extra Note: Something we want to place real emphasis on is how the characters themselves would train their Pokémon.
Interested in winning the badges, or they're really competitive, or the kind of person who trains a lot themselves? They would be hitting five levels a week at the most for each Pokémon.
If the character is laid back and is rather fond of this place, but not so much the battling? They might only battle for self defense while they travel around and only gain two or three levels a week per Pokémon.
If they aren't interested in battling at all, their Pokémon won't grow very fast, maybe one level a week at best.
Please level according to how your character would level their Pokémon!
Do I have to play out every battle?
Nope! You are more than welcome to handwave a lot of the regular training. There are wild encounters to count for, and you can assume battles with other players with their permission. Just be realistic about how many battles your pokémon can handle, and keep in mind the EXP gained by the levels of the Pokémon in the area!
Do you mean I can't power level like I usually do?
That's right! At the most, one Pokémon can only gain five levels during one week. This is to keep it realistic so someone doesn't say OH BUT THOSE WERE ALL WILD ENCOUNTERS I WAS FIGHTING! I'M LEVEL 50 after only a few days from beginning in Route.
Alright then, how many Pokémon do we get to keep?
At the maximum, one character may have 24 Pokémon. Six in their party at max, and eighteen in their PC. Due to the sudden influx of trainers, Bill is hard at work to keep the PC storage system from crashing, and trainers have to sacrifice all the extra space to make room for everyone else!
Could someone hack my PC and steal my Pokémon?
Nope, even if they were standing right there to steal your password. The Pokémon in your PC are completely safe, no chances of anyone taking anything.
Can they get Pokerus? What is Pokerus?
Pokerus is an infection that Pokémon get from time to time that, in the game, increase the amount of EXP earned from a battle. For now, we are not going to allow Pokerus in the game, so there will be no chances to have this status.
What about other statuses? What do they do?
The six main statuses that your Pokémon can take on due to battles are:
Burns: Damages your Pokémon by 5HP for every turn they have to fight injured. Burns last until the Pokémon is taken to a PokeCenter, or a burn heal or a certain berry is used. Being burnt lowers physical/special attack power by half! For severe burns caused by moves such as Will-O-Wisp, the damage will go up by 3. (In example, a Pokémon gets burnt and takes the inital 5HP damage. Next turn, they take 5 + 3 damage for still being forced to battle with their burnt condition.)
Paralysis: Does not cause loss of HP, but makes the Pokémon much slower than usual. This status lasts until the Pokémon is taken to a PokeCenter, or a Paralyze Heal or a certain berry are used. Sometimes the Pokémon is to paralyzed to fight during battles!
Poisoned: Damages your Pokémon by 5HP for every turn they have to fight injured, as well as for every five minutes that go by. The poisoned status lasts until the Pokémon either faints, or is healed at a PokeCenter, or an Antidote or a certain berry is used. For severe poisoning caused by moves such as Toxic, the damage will go up by 3. (In example, a Pokémon gets poisoned and takes the initial 5HP damage. Next turn, they take 5 +3 damage for still being forced to battle with their poisoned condition.)
Sleep: Puts the Pokémon to sleep for an undetermined amount of time, leaving them vulnerable to attack. They can sometimes wake on their own with enough prompting, but otherwise they will remain asleep until brought to a PokeCenter, an Awakening item is used or a certain berry is used.
Confusion: The Pokémon is confused and does not know which is friend and which is foe. There is a 50/50 chance of it attacking the opponent, as well as the chance of it hurting itself. The Pokémon can be cured of this status by switching it with another in battle, giving that Pokémon the time it needs to clear its mind. This status does not last after the battle! To clear confusion during battle, the trainer must use a certain berry.
Knocked Out: The Pokémon is unable to battle. This status can be cured by taking it to the PokeCenter (the most common one), or saving your P's to buy Revives from the stores. Revives will heal a Pokémon's health by 1/2, and enable it to battle again.
What are these berries you keep talking about?
