YAR!

I'll say it now, The Tain is the most kick ass song ever. If I thought that The Mariner's Revenge Song was awesome, well, I obviously haven't heard The Tain. And now I have heard the Tain, well, it's amazing. I bought The Tain/Five Songs by The Decemberists today on vinyl and it's a damn fine purchase if you ask me. I also got two Goblin ( Read more... )

the tain is pretty fucking amazing. i went through a period of about a month where i listened to that song on the way to work. i don't know if it got me into the best frame of mind for doing my job, but it certainly put an evil little smile on my face.

the whole "mother's milk" verse that rachel sings is amazing. "well the wind is blowing, it hurts your skin, as you climb up hillside, forest and fen..." so good. but every part is wonderful!! gah, now i have to dig that out and listen to it again.

It's so bloody good. I've sadly only got it on vinyl but I can guarantee I'll be listening to this for weeks on end - even though I know I should be listening to the equally good Dawn Of The Dead soundtrack.

I always used to think - back when I was naive - that the main singer (I'm bad with names) sang the female parts, up until I used my brain and read the singer notes in the booklets with the albums. Dah!

colin meloy has that kind of whiny voice that could almost be feminine. i tend to like whiny lead singers, for whatever reason.

If you don't find one, we've got a couple here that you could use. Just depends that it might not fit, bring it round and we'll see though.

I'd kill to see them live. I remember reading your post about how their first song was The Tain, that'd be a great concert to see.
