Shipping Preferences Post-DH

Feb 21, 2008 16:36

I was thinking about this while I was finishing my last day of work and consequently... I of course had to ask this. A while ago I asked about shipping preferences. Now that we're a good six months after DH's release and all of us have had time to absorb the end of canon, I figured I'd ask you guys. And as always, feel free to send this around and ( Read more... )

I didn't answer the last (serious) question. I've never really read HP fanfics, and I'm neck deep in Heroes fandom right now. mmmmmm yummy, yummy Heroes.

Things have changed for me, but not for any of the reasons given.

My involvement in fandom has stepped up in some ways since DH, but I am increasingly disillusioned with many of the people IN fandom.

I've never been a real shipper of any sort - I tend to prefer individual characters over pairings. I keep canon and fandom separate in my mind so I don't tend to get any real clashing going on. There are a few pairings I don't care for but I keep my mouth shut and just choose not to read it. There are some characters that I simply will not read.

As for genres, I go for anything - AUs are great, I love it when people write "missing scenes" or justify a ship using canon moments, and canon-compliant (EWE or not) is fine, too. I don't have anything I tend towards - I just read what I think looks good. Interesting plot premise is what usually grabs me in. Or, you know, unadulterated smut. :3 :D

So... no place for me in the poll, I'm afraid, but I thought I'd offer my feedback anyway. :D

Same here.

Truthfully, I write fanfiction, and that's really the extent of my involvement in fandom. I barely even read it anymore.

I think DH actually revived my interest in fandom, not even because of the book itself, but because of all the excitement and scandal and gossip around it. I love when the fandom gets all excited about stuff, it's so much fun. :D

The only change in my shipping habits is that I have now seen the light and realize that Teddy/James is sooo the couple of the future. My OTP (R/S, bien sur!) is still my OTP, and I love that Jo put in yet more vague kind-of-canon-evidence-if-you-squint-and-turn-your-head-sideways (lolz, your icon wins!). So, boys... just hanging out in the afterlife, then? I don't see Tonks with you. I'M JUST SAYING.

As for AU vs. DH-compliant, I'll read anything sufficiently pornographic, but I do find myself with a strong preference for at least a NOD towards canon-compliance. Those really extreme AUs (like, 'This is what would have happened if Voldemort had won!' or 'Here's Character A and Character B, except this is an AU where they're Muggles! In Paris! In the 1930s!') really don't appeal to me at all unless ( ... )

DH killed a lot of my interest because of all the people who acted like the people who DID like the book and/or the epilogue, even a little, are illiterate morons.

I couldn't answer the first question. It didn't KILL my love of fandom, but I'm definitely less active than I was. *shrugs*
