Random question: How would you like a visitor for new years? *innocent face*
AMS was interesting this year. I saw a lot of Strasser and he was SUPER happy to see me and really nice. I did get to see two different musicological fights though, and both involved Michael Marissen (Bach scholar). The first was between Marissen and Taruskin, and the second had Marissen and Daniel Melamed teaming up against a relative unknown who basically presented an entire paper on how she thought everything they've done is wrong. It was fantastic.
ZOMG. I would absolutely LOVE a visitor for New Year's. (btw- have I mentioned lately just how much I miss you? Because I do. A LOT.)
I'm glad AMS was interesting at least. I'm still looking forward to telling Strasser I'm going into Law. Yeah, haven't really done that yet. I'm also SO jealous you got to see two musicological fights. ESPECIALLY Marissen vs Taruskin.
The other though... wow. I just would have liked to have seen that one.
Did anyone win or was it a draw? *g* TKO by the Stitt biography in the third round.
"If I've missed anything MAJOR these past couple of weeks, don't be shy and tell me about it. I haven't had time to actually read anything here which I'm really sad about."
Well, my play and I got accidentally screwed by The Hampstead Theatre and the Directori's sense of Oxbridge indignation.
In other news, I thought of you a lot Sunday as I went to usher at my local theatre. They were doing a show called Musical of Musicals: The Musical. They take one plot (young woman can't pay rent) and run it through the musical stylings of Rodgers & Hammerstein ("Oh, the corn!"), Kander & Ebb, Webber ("Now the audience applaudes... the smoke machine!"), Jerry Herman, and, of course, Sondheim.
The Sondheim one was the best by far. A handful of dark and complicated New Yorkers welcome you to their complex, The Woods. The mean landlord is planning on killing everyone for ruining his artistic vision, which he expresses in his apartment color scheme ("Red red red red red red blue blue blue red blue red blue red...I felt like there should be a
