The kids, I believe MOSTLY have the same teacher all day long but change teachers for specialized things. Such as art and music.
The silence thing is something I've found to be really effective, so I'm glad I was on the right track. Sitting, I will have to add in there. And I will keep the getting done early in mind.
There's so much WONDERFUL information in there and I cannot thank you enough for all this! ♥
Good luck with the teaching, hun. Here's to hoping you find a little extra sleep though. As far as the children go, the only thing I can offer is that you be constant. Set what you are going to do, the rewards and punishments for various things, and don't change. Kids, especially ones that aren't used to behaving, need a lot of structure. They need to know how the world works.
Other than that...You can never go wrong with a good shock collar.
Speak quietly, be visibly pleased when they are good, and be firm about removing privileges as needed. Assuming they see your class as something away from the grind of the three R's and all.
This is harder than it sounds, but it works for most kids.
There are tricks, though they tend to require your hands. One is, start the class with a bunch of (beans, pennies, something) in one pocket--say, ten. Every time someone is a pain, say nothing, but visibly hold up one of them as you take it out of that pocket and put it in the other one. If the pocket gets empty, okay, clearly all y'all don't want to learn today, lesson over, instead we will all clean the room. If you get to the end of the time with at least (some number) of whatever still in the first pocket, use a reward you've specified.
