Part of her wishes that it wasn't the gravity of the situation reuniting The Five (or the four remaining members, including her protege), because it's been over a century since they've occupied the same room, and this is a much anticipated event to her ( Read more... )

Let it never be said that John isn't punctual. His strict Victorian sensibilities simply didn't allow it. Before entering, lifts a hand to knock, but pauses. It's still so new being able to see Helen once more. She's changed over the years, her eyes wiser and the innocence of youth gone from her ageless face. Still the dance of light and shadow over her features leaves him breathless. At length, he knocks lightly on the frame of the door, more to announce his arrival than to wait for permission to enter.

"Good evening, Helen," he murmurs in a quiet, almost hopeful tone as he steps inside. The last time he and Helen were in this room was when the Nubbin was loose. John pours himself a glass of brandy and takes the seat best positioned to see the door; the predator in him ever vigilant and unwilling to sit with his back to it. Normally, John wouldn't drink under these circumstances, however, his nerves are wearing thing and being in a room with Tesla and James might not have a calming effect.

Nikola arrived at the door exactly on time - not a moment early or late. He had been working in his lab and still had a long, white lab coat pulled over his suit.

Helen's memo had been, well - worrying. A meeting called so soon afterward could only mean one thing - something was about to go very wrong. Life was never idle in Old City.

Nikola lingered in the doorway, running his eyes over the carefully laid out room. Helen was there, humming about with a bottle of wine and - his excellent mood dropped at the sight of John - already into the brandy.

He bit back a snide remark. Best behaviour, Nikola...

"You rang?" he drawled at length, slinking into the room to take the wine from Helen.

Will nods weakly to the others as he arrives, looking like a man who hasn't been getting much sleep. Probably because he had a dozen things on his mind before this shit came down the pike. He eyes the brandy for a moment before deciding he's having a hard enough time staying awake as it is.

"Everyone," he greets them, finding a convenient wall to lean against.

James enters the room, the hiss of his braces seeming to mark the start of the hour as he crosses the threshold. He casts a quick glance about the room and feels a sudden surge of unease at the collection of familiar faces.

There has to be something amiss for Helen to have called them all together like this, so he puts on his strictly-business face and doesn't falter in his step as he nods a greeting to John. Casting a smile to Will, he moves over to the table where Nikola was sipping his wine, likely pondering how to best steal the bottle back to his quarters.

He greets Nikola with a hand clasped over his shoulder, and picks up a snifter of brandy before moving over to the couch where Helen is sitting nervously, greeting her with a swift kiss to the cheek before he takes the spot beside her on the couch, ready to support her in whatever way he can. At this point, he's certain that what she needs is civility, and he can certainly provide that.

"So," he says, sipping his brandy, "it appears as if we are all here, Helen."
