Running his fingers through his hair, Jensen half-walked, half-stumbled up the path towards the house waved his hand in the general direction of the car and fumbled for his keys for a moment before he gave up and settled for banging on the door. Jared was already home, had left the set hours ago while Jensen had stayed on to film some more of his scenes and Jensen just hoped that Jared managed to answer the door before he collapsed in their front yard because that really wouldn’t be good.

It had been a long day full of stunt-heavy scenes topped off with a scene where he had had to cry and, really, by that point, it hadn’t been hard to let a few tears fall because his nose was blocked and his head had hurt and all he had wanted to do was curl up in bed, legs tangled with Jared’s. He began to cough; loud, hacking noises that he tried to muffle behind his hands. Shaking his head, he knocked on the door again, swallowing against the next coughing fit that threatened to surface.

Closing his eyes, he leaned back against the wall and listened to the distant sound of Jared thundering down the stairs -probably taking them three at a time because that’s what he always did. He heard Jared talk to the dogs and then heard him curse as he tripped over the same bit of rug that he tripped over every morning. Gritting his teeth, Jensen pushed himself up off the wall; he didn’t want to worry Jared by making him think that he was sicker than he really was. The front door opened and Jensen was quite proud of the fact that he only swayed a little bit as Jared looked him up and down.

“Jensen? You okay?” Even as he spoke, he reached out to steady Jensen, pulled him inside and straight into a tight, warm embrace.

It felt good, being surrounded by Jared. He shrugged, “M’okay, just tired.” His reassurances were cut off by a coughing fit that had him almost doubling over and he took a second to reflect on the knowledge that he had always had the worst timing possible.

“Yeah, course you are. I told you to take it easy today, man.”

“It’s just a cold.” He shivered as a cold blast of air hit his back and frowned when he saw that the door was still open.

Jared nodded, “It’s just a cold that’ll turn into something worse if you don’t look after yourself. Look, why don’t you go and lie down upstairs? I’ll see to things down here and then come up.” He pressed his lips against the side of Jensen’s head.

Sighing, Jensen toed out of his sneakers and kicked them to the side of the hallway so that Jared wouldn’t trip over them later. He reached out and squeezed Jared’s hand before heading towards the stairs; maybe a few hours sleep would stop the pounding in his head.

Humming to himself, Jared hit the light switch, leaving the downstairs of his house in darkness as he walked up the stairs. He paused outside the door to the bedroom that he shared with Jensen, reached up into the top of the storage cupboard and grabbed a few extra blankets, just in case.

Jensen was still awake, his arms tangled up in the sheets and Jared shook his head at the determined look in Jensen’s eyes. “I thought you said you were going to rest.”

He blinked twice before he answered, “Wanted to say ‘night,” and Jared fought back a laugh because only Jensen would fight the tiredness and the fuzzy feeling that came with a cold so that he could say goodnight properly.

“Okay, night.” He crossed over to the bed and tossed the spare blankets over Jensen before climbing in himself. “You going to sleep now?” He pulled Jensen close, smiled at the way he relaxed against him. Jensen felt warm, too warm; after a moment’s thought, Jared sat up again and threw the extra blankets onto the floor.

“I’ll get there.”

“You sure?” Running a hand up and down Jensen’s hip, he kissed the back of his neck and then lay back down, wrapping his arms around his boyfriend.

“S’just a cold.”

Jared smirked slightly; it was never just a cold with Jensen because he never knew when to admit defeat, when to just take a few hours off and rest. With Jensen, colds always ended up as an infection or, on one memorable occasion, a trip to hospital.

“I called the director earlier.” Biting his lip, Jared rested his forehead on Jensen’s shoulder, hoping that Jensen would just accept the action he had taken for what it was - an attempt to make sure Jensen got better. “Asked him to move the schedule about. You’re not needed tomorrow.”

He closed his eyes, expecting Jensen to complain, to call him out on going behind his back but his declaration was met only by silence and, when he opened his eyes again, he saw that Jensen’s were closed. He smiled at the sound of Jensen’s soft snoring and pulled him just a little bit closer, trying not to think about how Jensen would react when he woke up ready to go and act the next morning.
