Fan-fun in Charleston?

gothphyle and I are heading to Charleston on Saturday morning. She's attending a work conference and I'm tagging along. (Hey, someone has to help drive... and lounge about in the hotel room!)

I see that there are some cool museums and tourist-y things to do but are there any fangals in that area that can offer any suggestions?

One of my fav things is outside of Charleston, at Cypress Gardens. It's a bit out of town, though. If you like swamps and gators that is. http://www.cypressgardens.info/... )

I don't know how far out of town you want to go, or even if you're interested in Navy history, but a few years ago, within the past 6-8 years, they raised and recovered an actual Civil War submersible. It currently sits in a museum while they excavate it (they found the crew's remains still in it). I haven't seen it, but it sounds fascinating.

There's also Fort Sumpter.
