i'll be going to taipei in october!
hopefully you'll like taipei more!
i've lived here for most of my life, so NYC is like "been-there-and-done-that" for me hehe.

i'll be happy to give you a list of pretty cool stuff you may want to check out while you're here.

have fun!

Hey one thing I wanted to ask is, I'm gonna be staying uptown (79th between 2nd and 3rd to be exact), so does it make more sense for me to plan my sightseeing, shopping etc working from uptown all the way downtown? I have no idea how messy, quick, inconvenient etc the subway is so I don't want to waste valuable time!!

What's a good way of getting from JFK into Manhattan apart from getting a cab? Do you struggle with the airtrain and subway?

hey!
i encourage you to still make some sort of plan for downtown. downtown is a lot cooler than uptown, and also considerably less expensive. how long will you be in town for?

the subways run very often (once every few minutes or so) during the day. if you plan on making home at after hours (like 3am), then that's when the subways run less frequently (like maybe twice every hour).

i've never taken the airtrain, but from what i hear, the airtrain takes an awfully LONG time to get into manhattan (roughly an hour and a half, when it should only take less than 30 minutes). there are a number of ways you can get into manhattan from JFK, but i'm just not sure which would be the cheapest. a taxi would be the most convenient, i think (since that can get you from door to door). but taking the subway or long island railroad would be the quicker way…and possibly the cheaper way as well.

if you need help with using the subway, feel free to ask. i'll try my best to help you any way i can.

have fun!

thanks for your comments! yeah not that i totally bottle things up - but well, i've moved to an area where i don't have any close friends here to vent to, and all my friends back home in nyc are so busy, it's like "out of sight, out of mind". i'll have to look you up when i return to nyc - i have family/friends who are into the music/entertainment scene in ny...wonder if you might know any of them. have a great time in taiwan! soooo jealous :P
