The lighting is all wrong, here in this lofty room with the gaudy stained-glass windows that should have been classic and the showy floral garlands along the pews that should have been romantic. The lighting is all wrong, filtering in shades of gray and too-bright white on her cream dress that blends in too much with her porcelain skin. The lighting is all wrong, because it's too much like a dungeon and it's supposed to be heaven.

But he takes her hand anyway, and the priest smiles idly, though he's certainly not all there himself or he'd have noticed what a sham this whole ceremony's been. But he takes her hand anyway, and his fingers are too warm, too alive, too coursing with earthly, sinful, ridiculous pleasures, and she shivers involuntarily at the feel of it. But he takes her hand anyway, and she closes her eyes when he slides the ring on her finger, both involuntarily and voluntarily this time.

[ugh to be continued because this sucks.]

For it being the Upper East Side, Dan is oftentimes surprised at how common it is for the van der Humphrey penthouse to be empty. He had hadn't really expected it to be almost for show, left empty for days at a time with Lily's more and more frequent trips upstate to visit her mother and his father's equally frequent retreats to his Brooklyn loft. Jenny's rarely around, having turned their side of the loft into her own personal fashion studio (and the kitchen into her baking paradise), and Eric is more often than not gone without a trace. Serena, well, he doesn't really know where she's gone at this point, but he doesn't see much of her either ( ... )

Future!fic. Jenny's made it big in fashion. Nate's in a loveless, crumbling marriage and shows up on her doorstep (or something to that effect).

For what it's worth, the floor-to-ceiling windows that filter in the natural light of the sunrise and the natural darkness of midnight weren't her idea. She usually has the curtains draped over them, a thick sort of muslin material with random designs swirling to keep it from being too boring, because she prefers the muted warmth of sunlight through fabric to its blinding, au naturel counterpart. She usually keeps a chandelier on the ceiling; the light bounces off the prisms and Jenny finds that if she can stop a moment to smile at the rainbows that form, she stays sane a little while longer ( ... )

I want some Kathleen/Teddy. And I want forever-in-unrequited-love Kathleen the moment what she has been waiting forEVER for happens when Teddy sees what is right in front of him. ♥

It's really just that same old cycle. He breaks up with her, she tries to comfort them both, she says something, and they get back together. Except this time, she doesn't say her line, she says what she feels, and Teddy looks confused and bewildered, and worst of all, he doesn't look like much of anything. He just looks like Teddy, a silent, silent, silent Teddy. And that say-nothing, feel-nothing rejection is the worst of all of them, and she can't take it anymore ( ... )

GOD JENNA THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL WTF WHY ARE YOU SO AWESOME AT WRITING AND LIFE AND SERIOUSLY THIS IS SOME MEGA TALENT HERE

A perfectly pretty girl and a man with a thousand faces, they belong together and a tornado with red hair belongs on the sidelines, the glue holding them together instead of the wind tearing them apart.

alsdjfa;lskdfjas;dlfkj alsdjaf;lskjdaf;lskdfj you have a serious way with words. and phrases. the her/his favorite thing killed me as well.

It's a few days later when the knocks on the door stop being figments of her imagination and start being real, and it's surprisingly when she stops getting up to check.

man this just breaks my heart :(

It's that I'm me when I'm with you, that my face makes sense and my head makes sense and all the thoughts in my head seem to line up.

THIS. THIS THIS THIS THIS. I LOVE THIS. YOU'RE BRILLIANT JENNA AHHHHH

and the ending is perfect. I love you (more) for writing this. ♥ ♥ ♥
