Chapter 26: Apologize
Time flew painfully slow when they were together in that small room. They could hear noises from outside, but none showed that they were coming this way. So for now, they were still safe. Ohno had been observing Nino since they escaped from that room, but the guy still hadn’t waken up yet… What should he have done if Nino never woke up again? What should he have done if he couldn’t make it, if he was too late, if he couldn’t save Nino? The thought scared him… As he was holding Nino tightly in his arms, he started to feel panic.
“Nino, please…”
He could still feel the warmth coming from Nino’s small body and it calmed his nerves a little bit. Therefore, he leaned down and kissed Nino’s forehead gently.
Suddenly, he felt Nino’s hand moved in his. Ohno immediately squeezed it tightly; his heart beat faster to the rate of being hard to breathe.
“Nino…!”
Nino opened his eyes slowly. The other four turned to them, with relieved smiles on their faces. Except Ninomiya, he still had a frown on his face, and he hid himself behind Jun, as if he didn’t want Nino to realize his presence.
“Ohchan…?” Nino said slowly, his lips curved up slowly into a slight smile.
“Nino, are you alright? Do you hurt? How are you feeling...?” Ohno asked, panicked, and Nino chuckled quietly.
“I’m okay,” Nino shook his head “I’m just… sleepy. How long have I been sleeping?”
“Since before we found you,” Jun answered. “We don’t know exactly for how long though.”
“How could you guys find me? And… where are we?”
“In the hospital,” Aiba said “You were brought here unconsciously and they wanted to operate on you. You’re lucky that we were on time.”
“But how could you know about that?” Nino tilted his head in confusion. “What kind of surgery?”
“It was him who got the idea and made up the whole plan,” Sho pointed at Ninomiya. Nino finally noticed Ninomiya’s presence. His face almost turned pale as their eyes met, and Ninomiya smirked with Nino’s frightened expression.
“Idiot, I won’t do anything to you!”
“He has just rescued you,” Jun complained, and Nino’s face turned bright red again. Though he still didn’t understand clearly what was going on, and why they were here, trapped inside this room - he has just got the situation vaguely. However, if it was the truth, then Ninomiya had the entire plan to rescue him from...
But exactly from what?
“I’m sorry, I just…” Nino bit his lips “Thank you, Ninomiya-san.”
Ninomiya just kept silent. The room suddenly filled with quietness, and the other four didn’t know what to say, they looked at Nino and then Ninomiya hesitantly. Finally, Ninomiya said with his lowest voice.
“Sorry,” he mumbled, and all the guys turned their attentions to him, their eyes widened in disbelief. What did they just hear from the guy who never apologize to other?
Nino was the one who seemed surprised the most. He thought he heard it wrong.
“What?”
“I said I was sorry!” Ninomiya snapped, annoyed. The other four, especially Jun, looked at him, amused. Jun knew why Ninomiya was saying this, and he found it extremely cute, because he didn’t think Ninomiya would ever say that.
Nino still looked confused.
“But why?”
“For hurting you. For prisoning you. For everything.” Ninomiya said, his voice lowered as he turned away. Jun’s hand wrapped around him coaxingly.
Nino’s mouth opened in shock, but a smile appeared on his face right after that. For the first time in his life he could hear Ninomiya’s true feeling for him, and it was unexpected, it was too weird but it was also sweet, and he thought maybe Ninomiya wasn’t so scary anymore...
“But not for loving you!” Ninomiya warned, his face turned bright red, and when he noticed the look on Jun’s face, he hurriedly added “Hey, just in the past!!”
“Even though it was just in the past, you don’t need to say it right in front of your new boyfriend!” Jun complained.
“Boyfriend??? We’re not boyfriends, stupid!!!!”
“Oh, yeah?” Jun smirked dangerously “So you don’t want to be my boyfriend? What about being my girlfriend?”
“NO WAY!!!!”
“Then stop being so stubborn!!!”
“I’m not!! Are you an idiot or what???”
“Guys, I know you want to being lovey-dovey here and there, but please keep quiet…” Sho suggested with a grin, and Jun patted Ninomiya’s head lovingly like a way to end their small quarrel.
Nino just grinned brightly and turned back to Ohno, who still refused to let go of his hand, and pulled him into a tight embrace.
“I’m so happy, Ohchan…” Nino smiled at Ohno, who contently hold him in his arms.
“Everything is alright now, Nino.” He answered, and Nino tightened his hold, like trying to get the best out of this moment. Their friends were around, and they were together, and his biggest fear had disappeared…
A small ring resounded, broke down the silence. They all turned their head to the source of the sound, and their face turned pale when Ninomiya took out his phone.
“Didn’t you turn it off, Kazu?” Jun asked in disbelief. “They can detect you by using your phone!!!!!”
“No, I’ve just turned it on again!!!” Ninomiya protested “I just… I want to know what happened outside!”
“But… is it a message?” Jun peered at Ninomiya’s phone “What does it say?”
Ninomiya opened the message and his face turned pale as soon as he read it.
“What’s wrong?” Jun asked worriedly, the others were staring at them questioningly, and Ninomiya could only give his phone to Jun and he read with a frown on his face.
“They said his father had an accident and had been brought to the emergency room. He got hit by a car while he was looking for Kazu.”
“Could it be a trap?” Aiba asked worriedly, he and Sho exchanged a look.
“Even if it can be, I need to go,” Ninomiya stood up abruptly. Jun immediately took his hand.
“Wait, Kazu…”
“He’s my dad, Jun,” Ninomiya said, he struggled to be out of Jun’s hold “He wouldn’t harm me, now Nino is safe here with you he couldn’t do anything...”
“I was just about to say I’m going with you.” Jun answered calmly, and he stood up as well. “Guys, you should go back. Nino needs a rest.”
“But what about you?” Ohno asked, genuinely worried “Ninomiya, what about your heart…?”
“I’d live longer than you,” Ninomiya smirked, and with that, he rushed out of the room, with Jun followed closely behind. Nino looked bewildered when they’ve finally gone, in a confused manner he turned to Ohno.
“What about his heart?”
