I've just discovered that few things feel worse than thinking your kid feels a bit warm, sticking a thermometer under his arm, and seeing it start at 101 and climb. It got up to 102.1, and underarm is about a degree lower than actual temperature ( Read more... )

Awww!
Poor bubala!

Fluids and aveeno and Motrin (but not for you) and calamine and cool baths.
And relax, odds are you've had it, and you're already 23 weeks-ish, so don't sweat it now. Call your midwife in the morning if you start feeling cruddy. Got some Tylenol for you just in case?

Feel better, Leif!

huh. we might have tylenol but don't keep any aspirin/motrin/naproxyn or such around at all since they all make me go to the ER (aspirin is a definite, the other two are maybes) and get fun amounts of 02 and epinephrine shots and breathing tratments and suchlike.

Personally, I'd rather get it done now, though we are in the middle of a ***HEAT*** wave.

I wonder how long until he's safe to take out in children's areas again

Once the pox crust over he's no longer contagious. So you've got a week or so before he play with others. But you may be surprised at how many parents WANT their kids to get chicken pox so they won't have to immunize them at age 6 (NYC law to go to school). I tried four times to playdate them with poxy kids and it never took, so they had to be vaccinated. yuck.
